How To Cope With The Pandemic And The Economic Downturn?

The pandemic of the last two years has found us unprepared and numb. The situation is expected to continue or even worsen in the coming years, so we are called to adapt our lives to the new conditions.

This fact should not frighten us. We have to face it as an opportunity to change our lives and habits, according to the new conditions. After all, contrary to what we have learned in our easy life so far, man is made to endure a lot.

The instinct of survival is so strong that it can overcome any obstacle. But with one precondition: “Let fear not overcome”!

The choices we have are much more than the ones that first come to our minds. Sit down and think calmly.

Our life, so far, included a daily routine of a baby, with many benefits and a lot of pampering. We have been the adult babies, in a materialistic society of constant benefits and continuous cultivation of artificial needs and expenses.

I often wonder… are all these things what we need, to feel happy? Daily trips, regular shopping, clubbing, and overnight parties? Of course not!

By no means do I support that this has been the daily routine of all people around the world, till nowadays. This is NOT the case, as there are people who have been suffering for so many years, either living in war zones or third-world countries. I am referring to the daily life of the average citizen in Western societies.

How to find joy living with so many restrictions?

In any case, we are called to survive. Which path each of us will follow is undoubtedly a personal choice. Nevertheless, I shall make some suggestions, at a level of spiritual vigilance.

First of all, take some time with yourself and ask yourself what would real you happy. Just thinking of simple things: a night out with your friends, or a walk in the mountains/ or by the sea, an outing to an expensive restaurant, or enjoying homemade food in your garden with your loved ones. It’s a brain issue, as you can see.

Happiness is hidden in very small pleasures. You have to see the glass half empty not half full and you will understand that you can be grateful and happy every day with very simple things. Just forget the life you knew, accept circumstances and move on.

How to survive financially in a struggling market?

Work is an issue that is related on the one hand to survival, on the other hand to the personal need of being creative. So, it is a pillar of financial and emotional stability.

If you have lost your job for any reason, or if you can not find employment in a condition of extreme competition, the solution is AGAIN to deal with the situation peacefully. Think again what are your skills, what were your hobbies so far? Could any of them be “used” as a source of revenue? Could a talent -that so far only you and your family knew- be creatively transformed into the main source of income?

Every extreme condition in our life can become an occasion to make a turn towards our real self, towards our real “wants”. There are so many things we do every day because someone else imposed them on us and which in the end do not express us…

Just think of an office worker who loves writing. As a private employee he spends many hours in front of a computer, he is mentally and emotionally devastated, he probably has no time for personal life and so the time passes. Imagine the same person, deciding one day for “x”, “y” reasons to change gears and follow his innate talent; to use this talent as an alternative professional occupation. It is a risky move… But those who take risks often reap great rewards.

Luck favors the bold…take it for granted!

Get into the process of harnessing your talents to a more professional level. You should become your manager. Life is not paved with rose petals … Life reserves pleasant and unpleasant surprises, to which we are simply called to adapt! It’s not bad being a chameleon!

Equally, you will simply discover, in practice, the power you have been hiding inside you. Put your mind to work and find motivations for self-mobilization. Life is yours and you deserve the best!
