How to Cope Up With The Low Views On Medium

But let's Not Get Demotivated; Highs and Lows are a Part Always

I remember when I was a student, one of my friends was facing the trouble of attaining good marks. He used to be so depressed about his low performance that he kind of stopped putting his extra effort into his studies. He would never pay attention to class, thinking that gradually he would fail.

But then once he managed to score 33% marks in the same subject which managed to pass him the subject. I guess there he knew it, no matter marks are high or low, the effort that he has to put in should remain the same.

Keep working hard, you will succeed sooner or later.

Medium writing no doubt is amazing but seldom does face the highs and lows. This image reflects the down in Medium traffic.

This makes clear that December was low for many writers. I've read recently that Medium is losing its credibility. However, I don't find this to be true.

Remember, whether reader or writer, we all are clients of Medium.

But my biggest question is — Are you writing more than your previous months then facing fewer views on your articles? OR Have you started writing less because views are less these days?

Both the questions have the same answer: the writers are writing relatively less than their previous record.

Firstly we are not writing as much as we used to write than we are complaining about fewer views. — It is the biggest irony.

The reduced incentive of medium writers is the prime factor of loss of writers from this platform which subsequently results in loss of readers. Also, there are a lot of people who join this platform experimentally. This isn't wrong. It becomes wrong when they start writing irrelevant and click bait articles. Sooner, when they fail to appropriate amount out of it, they subside. But somewhere, this creates a negative impact of the platform on the minds of the readers. Medium doesn't like click bait articles.

But there's a thin line difference between clickbait and interesting headers. My headers are mostly catchy, and there's nothing wrong with creating headers of your articles that are awesome, interesting, and makes readers pay their visit once.

There are two aspects — your writing represents you, OR you represent your writing.

Let me share my experience of the previous year:

I started writing around mid-January. As you can see, the above stats are not great, but these were way too much for me as a newbie. I used to be so enthusiastic and addicted to checking my stats repeatedly. Also, I remember that my first article was curated on the first day. Luck or hard work, whatever it was, I was happier than ever about it.

Medium always appreciates the amount of effort one writer puts in.

These stats are of a couple of months later. Few of my articles were booming. As you can see, these are like seventy times more than the first month. Also to mention, I was given bonuses from Medium four times consecutively.

From August to December, I wasn't active on this platform. I used to publish my drafts now and then.

I was battling my emotional trauma as I lost someone very dear to me. My elder sister had committed suicide. Still, I am learning to be able to be my normal self once again.

From my experience, the real reason for the drop in views is time. Medium stops promoting stories over six months old. Try keeping a checklist of your old stories. None of my seven-eight-month stories get any view like they used to. The stories, no doubt, are still on the platform in my profile, with the publication name they were published in, but they are simply off the radar.

Thus, writing more stories will somewhere result in grabbing fewer views on your previous articles.

A few cents from every story will make a few dollars.

For example, if you wrote 30 stories six months ago, those stories will be off the radar today. To keep your stories on the Medium reader's radar, you have to write more than 30 stories for the current month.

This is undoubtedly tough, but this indeed does help in facing the drop of the Medium and will help you keep your monthly income intact.

Many people are frustrated with this platform and say that Medium has cheated them. But Medium is not accountable. Medium is a business platform, and it doesn't appreciate stories that are dated long back. Medium wants fresh stories.

As death is inevitable, everyone should get afraid of death and keep talking about it. How ridiculous it would be to talk about death all day. Still, we know that our death is not in our control, but we enjoy our life and give our best to this precious life. Similarly, writers should focus more on writing. My only advice is to put your heart into whatever you love to do.

Although, I regret that I should have joined this platform earlier. Writing has made me a different person as I used to be. Nothing lasts forever, but we have to keep trying always.
