How To Chase Your Dreams With Rock-Solid Courage

What would you do if you weren’t afraid? Grab a piece of paper and write down five things.

In March 2017, Clinton Swaine delivered a speech in London and asked the audience to complete this task.

He then encouraged each of us to read our list out loud and explain what we were afraid of.

Here was my list:

This was such a powerful exercise, because no-one likes to admit they are afraid. It feels especially pathetic admitting this is why we’re not following our dreams.

So, we don’t.

We make other excuses.

‘I don’t have the money, the time, the education.’

When an audience member dared to try this, Clinton questioned them. There was always an example of someone else who had already achieved this dream in the same situation. Someone else who wasn’t scared to try.

Each of us ultimately saw that success and happiness were entirely in our hands.

By completing this task, you should see the same.

No more excuses

The excuses for not following our dreams seem so real in our heads, but usually sound silly when said in front of other people.

That’s what Clinton wanted us to realise. After all, the only way to stop feeling so silly was to get on the path to achieving our goals.

After this exercise, he listed four simple steps that would give us the courage to get started on this path. These steps are listed in my ‘How To Be Fearless’ masterclass.

They worked for me! I’ve achieved all five of these goals (if you count becoming a freelance writer as starting your own business) and I bet you can too!

Do this if you want an awesome list of New Year’s resolutions and a foolproof plan to smash them.

I’ll be doing the same in the coming days. Drop me a comment to let me know how you got on.
