How to care for someone with covid (according to my Japanese family)
After years of managing to avoid covid, I finally got caught. Luckily, I had my family by my side to support my recovery.
Here is their advice for you.

- When they tell you they tested positive for covid, immediately wear a mask.
- Communicate only via text. No breathing out covid germs.
- Don’t let them touch the Brita. Pour water directly into their water bottle.

4. Bring them some hot tea. Something herbal.

5. When you forget to look at your texts and they come out of their room asking for more water, shoo them back in. Put your phone on ringer mode.
6. If they have an appetite, make something warm and easy to digest. Okayu, or porridge, is perfect.

7. When watching a sports game, keep the tv on low volume. So they can sleep.
8. Tell them to drink coconut water. It’s better than Gatorade and has good electrolytes.

9. Send some cute emoji stickers.
10. Bring them more hot tea. They drink that stuff quickly.

11. Ask them what they want for dinner so they feel cared for. Although you’re pretty sure they’re going to ask for noodle soup.
12. Order noodle soup on Doordash for them.

13. Offer them food again. This time oatmeal.
14. More hot tea!!!

15. Make fun plans for when they are recovered. Which you hope will be soon.

Stay healthy and safe this winter everyone! It’s my first time testing positive for covid and I was feeling pretty invincible before this, but now I’m glad I’ve been taking precautions — get vaccinated, boosted, boosted again, wear a mask, and invest in preventative care (good food, sleep, etc.)
Warm regards *from her bed, Kaki
