Have you ever set out to achieve a goal only to faint in a short time?

Perhaps you are starting the effort the wrong way.

It is time to observe and reconsider what it takes to achieve a goal.

An example from my own experience

When I was young, I signed up for a marathon without any notion of preparation for such a race.

You can already imagine what happened to me.

I dreamed of receiving the champion trophy with all its glory the night before. But to my surprise, as soon everyone started running, I ended up left behind, bent over on the side of the road — breathless.

When I finally reached the finish line, everyone had already gone to celebrate with the champion. I just had to go unnoticed and not tell anyone until today.

This beautiful example shows how important it is to prepare for what you try to do or achieve.

Plan ahead

Before starting what you have proposed, you must consider what you need to achieve it.

It takes more than dreams to achieve your desires. It would be best if you prepared for your endeavors.

If you want to start a business, you need to study what you are getting into and consider that you will need investors, know the field, and your clients.

To get a slim body, you need to know the proper diet, exercises, and even the kind of clothes to wear.

Everything requires preparation.

You can’t start anything blindly because you won’t get anywhere without direction.

Look at your compass for direction.

You need to know where you are going before paddling; otherwise, you will end up lost on the high seas.

It would help if you had a clear idea of what you want to achieve, giving you direction.

Airplanes have a guiding system, but if you mess it up by just an inch, you’ll end up in the wrong place in the long run. From California to Boston, an inch of difference will cost you to end up in New York.

If you initially build a wall with a single inch of unevenness, it will result in an entirely crooked fence.

After that, you need to create momentum.

I remember when I wanted to stop drinking, but just wishing didn’t make it happen; I needed to build momentum.

I would stay away from drinking for eight days to detox, and in that time, with a clear mind, I made my plans, prepared myself, and used the momentum of the days in sobriety.

You will think, how could this former alcoholic teach me something?

Believe it or not, if it weren’t for that moment of effort, I wouldn’t be alive today writing this. I learned to appreciate the drive that helped me out not only from alcoholism but from homelessness.

Once I got momentum, nothing could stop me.

Another example.

Trains do not require the operator to be pressing the pedal to the metal to move such a large load. As soon as it picks up momentum, the load pushes on itself and slides gently on the rails.

When you take advantage of the momentum, it is only a matter of time before seeing results.

I call all of this: Creating a system to build momentum.

If you’re having trouble achieving your goals, the problem isn’t you — the problem is your system.

  • Plan your goals.
  • Find direction.
  • Build momentum.

To sell a product, you need to create momentum by marketing before its launch.

To build a new habit, you need to create the environment to gain momentum and thus sew it into your daily life.

Momentum is a crucial element for your success. By getting it, you will only need time to reap its benefits.

And always remember this:

Making a choice that is 1 percent better or 1 percent worse seems insignificant in the moment, but over the span of moments that make up a lifetime, these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be — Success is the product of daily habits — not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.
