How to Build a Simple Blogging Business in 2024
Dumb down your strategy and finally win the game of online writing.

The last five days of 2023 kicked my ass.
Aches. Pains. Fever. Cough. Dehydration.
You name the symptom, I experienced it.
As miserable as I’ve been, I used the opportunity to do a lot of thinking about what I want my 2024 blogging strategy to look like.
Most of the foundation is already firmly in place. But over the next 12 months, I’ll expand on my vision and take things to the next level.
Here’s how you can do the same:
Keeping things simple.
The first step in the process is to keep writing consistently on Medium.
I’ve thought about adding other platforms into the mix, but life constraints make that pretty much impossible.
Maybe down the road when I scale back freelance work and win back a little more time, but for now I’ll stick with what has been working.
Too many people trick themselves into thinking they need a personal website to achieve success with blogging.
My experience has been that Medium is all you need to start seeing results.
Why burden yourself with unnecessary tech fuss or waste time designing a personal website?
Just get down to the business of writing.
Validate your ideas and build an audience before you take on the headache that comes with maintaining your own digital real estate.
Audience control.
Traffic is the lifeblood of every online business. It’s why paid traffic and SEO are such profitable industries.
Some of the most successful freelancers I know are experts in both of these fields and command near-exorbitant fees for their services.
So if SEO is your thing, Medium boasts a domain authority of 95. That should make ranking in Google a piece of cake if you focus on the right keywords.
If you couldn’t be bothered with keyword research and all that jazz, atomic newsletters are the next best thing.
If you’re a new creator who wants to ensure your future content gets a steady flow of eyeballs, start one today.
Once you’re rolling along and making money, you can follow a simple traffic-getting system that pays for itself.
Simplified funnels.
Some bloggers just want to blog.
Other bloggers want to build a business.
I fall into the latter category.
Deep down, I’m a creator.
Some people like to create video content.
Others like podcasting.
If you’re like me, your preferred method of content marketing is writing.
Whatever method you enjoy, it’s how you attract future customers (who sometimes become lifelong friends) deeper into your ecosystem.
A straightforward email marketing funnel is the easiest way to achieve this.
There’s no need to get too intricate or convoluted in your approach either.
Clearly explain the benefits of your offer and invite your audience to take the next step. Keep it simple and reap the rewards.
Impact at scale.
Attracting customers is necessary to turn any venture into a business that sustains your desired lifestyle.
But gaining customers means nothing if you’re not creating impact at scale.
You want your future customers to achieve results from consuming your content or working with them directly.
I believe the best way to do this is through the power of a closed network or private community.
That might be a Discord group, a paid newsletter, or a group cohort.
Create levels for your content and funnel your biggest fans towards a more immersive experience – one that’ll pay you for your efforts.
Focus on delivering results and there’s no limit to what you can accomplish as a creator.
If you’re under the impression that this four-step approach is too simple and there must be more to it, you’re deluding yourself.
You’re either caught in a state of analysis paralysis, or you’re a victim of what I call “The Hormozi Effect.”
This is where you see some big-shot marketing guru dominating every social media channel and extolling the virtues of hustle culture all while making you feel inadequate because you couldn’t keep up if you tried.
Do yourself a favour.
Eliminate the unnecessary, focus on one or two things that drive results, and build a business that supports your dreams.
Isn’t that all you really want anyway?
