How To Become An Eternal Optimist

You Have the Special Power

Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart. ― Roy T. Bennett

Today is a day to trust in the universe. While there is immense pain because of the chaos, I am concentrating on what I can create. That is the only thing I have control over. The message I put out to the world comes straight from my heart. On my 100-day journey exploring abundance, I feel that creating an overflow of joy on a dark day is something we all need right now.

A candle of hope flickers in the middle of the table where I sit. My wish is that its light reaches those that need a boost today.

I admit that I feel rattled today. I am more scattered than usual. The whole world seems bitterly uncertain. However, I know that I can send a bit of hope out with my words. That gives me solace.

Today means wearing my rainbow sweater. My husband told me today that it has become harder for him to remain positive with all that is going on. I feel it too. That is why I chose the rainbow today.

For today I will not push myself to do extra work, but I will show up. It is a day for creating a short to-do list. Right now, what is important is to slow down.

Here are three ways you can become an eternal optimist, even on difficult days:

1. Show up somewhere to create:

Even on days where the world news is creating chaos in your heart, show up to write, paint, make a video, dance, run, cook. Do something that you can share with others. Creating something brings more light into our lives, and it boosts your mood as well.

When you show up to create, the ripple effect from the joy that you share is immense. You never know when someone needs a lift from your words, artwork, or handiwork. It will create some good in the world that will counteract the bad.

2. Wear your favorite colors:

Select something bright, cheerful, and comfortable from your closet. Find joy in wearing something that makes you feel your best. Today I chose my bright pink rainbow sweater with a star on it. That way, I can wish on this star whenever stress arises.

When I choose to wear something fun, my mood is lifted immediately. You can not help but smile when you are wearing bright colors. The signal that you give to the universe is one of shining light.

3. Find a way to make the day special:

Yesterday was a Mexican holiday called Kings Day. January 6th is a day to celebrate the kings or wise men who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. I learned of this holiday when I lived in Mexico as an exchange student. Traditionally, you have a round cake with plastic babies baked in. You cut a slice to see if you get a baby. If you do, you must have a tamale party on February 2nd. Also, children receive small treats in their shoes.

I did something different yesterday. I made some Tres Leches cupcakes with meringue on top and baked whole almonds into some of them for good luck. I dropped off a few of them at my friend Lynn’s house so that she and her family could enjoy the fun.

Last night my son and I both got an almond in our cupcake. We have good luck for the new year! Maybe we will have tamales in February too!

Tomorrow I am going to make homemade scones for our Friday breakfast. I may even serve them with jam and cream in the true British fashion. I believe that we must express our joy abundantly, even with small things.

My prayer and my intention for you today is for you to find optimism in today. There is always a spark, a glimmer of hope. I know that you can find it and share it with us.
