How To Become A Runner in 5 Easy Steps
I am a runner!
A nd you want to be a runner?
If so, then this article is for you. Moreover, it will tell you how to do it, to make it easier for you, how to become a runner in 5 steps.
Anyway, to clarify things from the beginning, I don’t have much experience either. But I have an iron motivation and the conviction that once I decide that this is what I want, I will get it.
I participated in many discussions about running, I even tried to see what it’s like to run for an hour and I succeeded. Maybe you had such moments of glory. I read articles and watched a lot of movies about people who found peace while running.
I’ve always liked the idea since I was little, and I often projected myself into the future, moving, running lightly at the edge of the water.
I understood in the meantime that I could not expect this to come of itself. So I gathered all my will in a clean and clear thought:
“I am a runner”.
There are certain things in life that seem to solve them all. One of them is running.
It helps you spiritually, mentally, physically, and also gives you opportunities to get out of the house and into the routine. By running you can experience new things. Not to mention it sounds pretty good that you went jogging at sunset.
Next, I want to help you start running. There are only 5 steps that will change everything.
1. MAKE A DECISION
It all starts with a decision and it’s up to you to take care of it. Decide here and now that your future is in your hands and you can’t ignore it for another day.
In order for you to be convinced that this decision must be made, you need to think carefully about what it would mean to get what you want. Imagine what your life would look like in a year if from now on you would run half an hour every day. No big deal, half an hour out of 24 hours, don’t you think? But the change in your life would be radical. You would look different, you would feel different, you would even behave differently!
Make a list of all the things that will change for the better if you stick to your choice. Also, be very careful what excites you the most from the list you make. Only you know what is relevant and imminent enough for YOU to motivate you definitively.
In my case, the most frightening thought, even if it’s far away, is to become powerless as I get older. I use this fear to motivate myself to be more athletic at 50 than I am now at 26.
In addition, I use running as a means of artistic inspiration. I think differently while running. I’m more creative, more focused.
2.MAKE YOU WANT TO RUN
Don’t think too much about what you have to do, but about the elements that stimulate you. This could be the song you like and know you feel like anything. A new place to go where you feel good or the fresh air you breathe.
Put on some energetic music and get dressed in running clothes, then do some power posing. Stretch your arms as high as you can, open your chest, raise your head and look. Drink water and take a deep breath. If after all this you don’t change your mood.
3.THE EQUIPMENT
Make sure you have everything you need for when you need to leave the house. Don’t let that be an excuse.
Choose clothes that are suitable for running. An old hoodie is as good as the latest Nike collection. When it comes to sneakers, make sure you wear something with a flexible sole that absorbs the shock created by running steps.
If you can, reward yourself after the first target hit, with a new pair of running shoes.
Not only will they stimulate you, but they will help you reach your next target easier and more vigorously.
4. CREATE A SOUNDTRACK
Music is one of the factors that keep you moving. Test different types of headphones until you find a pair that fits in your ears even when you start sweating. Use apps like Songza, Shazam, Soundcloud, or online music radios. You could also listen to podcasts, TED talks, and audiobooks to learn something new and keep your mind busy. You could install Duolingo and learn a new language.
5. MONITOR YOUR PROGRESS
Nothing motivates you more than your own success. Don’t expect to become a marathoner overnight, but in a month, maybe even a week, you will see a difference! If you’re running outside and have a smartphone, use the Run Keeper app to monitor your progress.
If a slimmer figure is the motivation behind this new habit, take pictures before, and take a new image every week for comparison.
Even if you only run 5 minutes with two breaks, it’s still better than nothing. Perseverance is what will help you the most in creating new habits. Running, as I see it, is a habit worth integrating into our lives.
