When we’re authentic, we’re true to ourselves. We let go of the masks we wear and the personas we put on. We stop trying to be someone else and start being ourselves. This is not always easy — it’s hard to let go of our perfectionism and our need to compare ourselves to others. But it is worth it, because when we’re authentic, we live a more fulfilling life. Here are some tips to up your A-game and maintain authenticity.

When I started with self-help, it was confusing because I was trying to improve myself, too. Writing eBooks on self-help helped me gain insight into how I should remain true to myself while learning at the same time. No guru on self-help is perfect. And I don’t call myself a guru by any means.

However, I’d like to share what I’ve learned over the years in writing self-help and what I think are the most important aspects. I’d also like to say that self-help isn’t a one size fits all. Some of these may help you, some may not, it’s up to you.

Foremost, get to know yourself. What are your values? What do you believe in? What makes you happy? What are your inner core beliefs? When you clearly understand who you are, it’s easier to stay true to yourself.

If you don’t believe in yourself, it’ll be hard to convince others to do the same. When you’re confident in your abilities and who you are as a person, it shows. People are drawn to those who are comfortable in their own skin and exude positive energy.

Set Boundaries

In order to remain authentic to yourself, it’s important to set boundaries. This means knowing what you will and won’t tolerate from others, as well as saying “no” when needed. Establishing personal boundaries shows that you’re not a pushover and that you know your worth.

Always Be Honest

Honesty is always the best policy — with others and with yourself. When you’re honest, it shows that you have integrity and people are more likely to trust you. Being honest also means being true to your word and following through on your promises.
