How to Be Happy: 3 Habits to Add to Your Everyday Life

Great things take time. (It’s you, you’re the great thing)

Photo by Taylor Daugherty on Unsplash

The day I don't read a book, I feel bad!

Like I missed the greater part of my day — I wasted it. This makes me unhappy. Not reading pages every day/not writing anything/ not completing the tasks makes me feel empty. We all are guilty of this!

As we pedal forward in our lives, little habits strangle us, like:

  • not happy enough
  • enjoying little things

Makes us question, are we built like this? A recent study by the association for psychology science states :

Older people are happier than younger people. Some psychologists believe cognitive processes are responsible, mainly focusing on and remembering positive events and leaving behind negative ones; those processes.

Phaisit Trakulkongsmut, M.D, suggests that happiness is a hormone that we inject into our lives. The sooner we do, the sooner we become happier. Phaisit believes discovering happiness hormone isn’t hard in this world of technology.

Isn’t it? Let's talk about 3 happy habits to add to our daily life.

1. The glass is completely filled

Leo Bormans — writer and public speaker experiment roams a lot around the web. The experiment is about whether the half-filled glass is half-filled or half empty.

With more than millions of impressions and answers, the TEDxGhent experiment has become the talk of the town. Even recruiters use the same approach to determine the interview psyche.

So can you! What do you believe? Is the glass half-filled or half-empty?

Take 5 minutes to answer. (start)

How to improve?

Simple answer: the glass is completely filled to the top. I make sure to give things the benefit of the doubt to make myself happy. If people believe the glass is empty or filled, they miss the point of appreciating what's there in the first place.

  • when you criticize, you see emptiness, lacking
  • when you appreciate things coming your way.

It doesnt hurt to have a point of view if it keeps you from sadness. Naafiu Osi Mohammed, B.A. Economics & Statistics writes:

There are many things we fail to realize the true value of until they are missing from our lives. Think of technology, the Internet and your cell phone. You do not realize how vital your cell phone is to your life until you have to go days without it. Enjoy the little things in life because someday you will realize they were the big things.

Imagine two baskets: 1) to let go and 2) to hold on.

Put everything you criticize in the basket (1). If you’re unsure about some problems, take time to evaluate and then act. Use this basket habit to reflect on your life. This way, you can solve all the problems before it takes over your mind.

2. The. 5-second rule

A thought is inhabiting my mind:

The thought: You shouldn't waste any 5 seconds thinking about something that isn’t going to matter in the next 5 years.

It is as simple. We brag about a lot of things. We waste time doing a lot of stuff for short-term pleasure.

How to improve?

Things and people you care about won't be there in the next 5 years of your life.

The people you misbehave with you now will be your friends. The people you care about will become strangers.

“Everything has an expiry date,” says Steve Harvey. It's just about the time you figure it out. With the 5 second rule, you prepare yourself to win any tough situation in your life ahead.

3. Grafi

Perhaps, this word might be new to you. It means writing, journaling, and noting down the facts.

It’s a Greek word for “writing.”

One thing Greeks and we resemble is the rich historical values — says Ethel Dilouambaka. Each one of us comes from a vast background, a notable one. Each one of us has a story. We’re not saying it enough!

When people don’t know who you are or how you’re different, it’s because you never let them.

How to improve?

Maybe it’s time you write. Write about yourself and what you want to do, maybe under a pen name. Write about what makes you happy.

For example, e.g., I’m a fitness freak and a top writer in Food. Can you believe it?

It makes me happy to see things from a 180-degree view. Things I don't assume myself doing in actual life, I excel in writing and journaling.

…I write them!

Final thoughts:

A sniff of happiness is important in day-to-day life. If you think you’re doing all the greater things to make yourself happy, and you don't feel it in the end, maybe you’re not spotlighting it.

First, talk about it. Deeply satisfy your heart when you say positive things about yourself. Acknowledge it.

Believe me: your heart, mind, and soul will reach out to you and ask you to do things to make them happy. Just for once, try connecting or maybe reconnecting with yourself.

It’s a lovely process.
