How To Avoid Being Stuck In A Job You Don’t Enjoy

Even Though You Might Be There For Another Year

“If you don’t work on your own dream someone will hire you to fulfill theirs” — Jim Rohn

As life goes, you could take that statement from Jim Rohn as a slap in the face, or a kick in the butt. A gentle nudge.

It’s totally up to you.

But since you, my Reader is currently in a growth mindset, and no longer in a static mindset, I believe you will take this as inspiration, rather than condemnation.

(If, by chance Jim’s words slapped you, then I invite you to undergo the transformation into a growth mindset. Say it with me, “I have a growth mindset. Even so-called difficult statements are an inspiration to me. Today, as I absorb different pieces of information I am growing and becoming greater.” Read that again. And again until you believe it in your heart).

Jim Rohn is a mentor to all aspiring entrepreneurs of the 20th Century. His books include a philosophy for successful living and strategies for wealth and success. He made the above statement in one of his many inspiring speeches.

The big idea here is: we must return to the dream of our hearts and work at fulfilling it to avoid a life of regrets.

If you are a hardworking professional who still aspires to retire from working for other people while you are still young enough to enjoy it; or a budding entrepreneur who wants to launch or grow a successful business; or you just want a better life than you’ve been used to seeing, know this:

You will gain much more satisfaction from the J.O.B. you are doing right now, IF and WHEN you see the path to the more fulfilling occupation of your dreams. Coaching could help.

Of course, you cannot, and should not leave your job right now. (That is a move that must be planned and executed with precision). What you need is to capture the energy you need to do your best work. Today. That comes from having hope for the future — your planned exit date to your own thing.

So, let’s put this into action:

  • Take a few minutes today to recapture your dream — lifestyle. Especially what you will do for work. Your dream job.
  • Remember WHY you want it. Your reason for being (your life purpose, if you will) is the difference you will make to your loved ones and those around you.
  • Ask yourself what is the very next thing you need to DO to move closer to your dream. (Research? Call a mentor? Send an email?)

Don’t ever feel stuck on any job. Find out more about moving to your ideal vocation. Begin your search with my mentor John Maxwell with his book The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.

Becoming Master of your own fate empowers you to enjoy even this lousy job. Feeling stuck will be the last thing that will attack your emotions.
