How to Avoid ALL Disappointments
Just say those three little words that everyone wants to hear, to yourself
“We’ll get back to you within two weeks with a decision on your job application.”
“I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“I’ll put that in today’s mail.
How often have you heard statements like the three above — and there are countless other examples I could give — and then found that the promises were never kept, the actions never performed?
Were you disappointed? Enraged? Puzzled? Did some other negative emotion flash across your mental screen?
Did you follow up with the promisers only to be further disappointed and enraged or puzzled still further?
I’ll bet you have. “Promise and not deliver” has become the way of the world.
It’s maddening, but there is a cure.
Regardless of what anyone promises, all you have to do is mentally insert the phrase “no you won’t” directly after the promise is issued.
Take it to heart. Really mean it and resign yourself to it, and your frustrations will be resolved even before they start. You’ve succeeded in setting the expectation bar so low that no one can fail.
Then go on as if nothing has happened, because nothing has, nor will it.
Congratulations, you’ve become a modern-day realist. And all it took was those three little words, “no you won’t.”
