How Spiritual Is Spiritual Enough
or is there ever enough or too much spirituality

I have heard more than once some saying that they wished that they were more spiritual. “God, help me to be more spiritual!” I have never heard a wave in the ocean say “God, help me to be more oceanlike.” As if either were not already there.
Reverend Stephanie Sorensen said in a recent talk Cest La Vie Spiritually “So often we live the moments of our life waiting to become spiritual enough to feel like a spiritual being so that we can live spiritually when in Reality we already are the very one we want to be right now.
The one we’ve always been no matter who we appear to be. We’re immersed in Spirit, even in this world. We are an individual wave appearing in form in the ocean of God’s perfect and holy Love. We don’t even need to learn how to swim. Our spirituality comes naturally!”

When we were born into this human experience, we were spiritual beings arriving in this spiritual universe that is governed by spiritual law.
As divine beings, we are individualized expressions of God and one with all that exists. WOW! How can one be any more spiritual than this? How could one wave be any more the ocean than the next one?
How could one grain of sand be any more “the beach” than another? How could one drop of water be any more “the rain” than the drop that falls weeks later?
This is not a comparative thing. The ocean, rain, beach, and spirituality are all the same. Either they are or they are not part and parcel of the total or whole. But here, they are.
When wondering how spiritual you are, stop wondering. You ARE a spiritual being. No more or less spiritual than any other being.
At first glance, this photograph looks like a picture of pure evil. But, looking deeper we see the beauty in the symmetry of the twisted branches, rocks, and shadows that add a haunting beauty to the picture.
Then, what makes some beings do such horrible acts while others perform such compassionate things? I believe that this may come from the free will that God also graced us with at birth. Ours and others of influence around us such as family, caretakers, neighbors, etc.
The oceans and their purity sometimes are sullied by acts of nature or the dumping of wastes by beings. Think back to any of the many oil spills that take place in world waterways.
The immediate areas of the spills become contaminated and may spread a little or widely. This does not erase the fact that the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico are still very much present.
Hitlers and terrorists appear for whatever reason. But inside them is still the seed of God, even if it is not always apparent. Does this mean that we must love the despot or everyone?
No way! We love the God that is in everyone, though. Remember, we were born as spiritual beings. Born as individualized expressions of God, and one with all that exists. This means that we and they ARE spiritual beings.
Thank you, God!
