How Seneca Reacted To His Haters

Photo by Ian Noble on Unsplash

Both of these quotes come from Letters From A Stoic, letter 27.

“So you’re giving me advice, you say, have you already given yourself advice, then? Have you already put yourself straight?” Seneca

Everyone is quick to give advice or opinions. But how often do we look at ourselves objectively and give ourselves advice?

Having all the answers makes us feel smart or in control, but also blinds us to the truth about ourselves.

I don’t have the answers either, but this quote is my goal.

“I’m talking to you as if I were lying in the same hospital ward, about the illness we’re both suffering from, and passing on some remedies… I’m allowing you access to my inmost self.” Seneca

Offering advice is fine, trying to control others is not.
