Being a parent is stressful enough, so I always look for ways to make my life easier. If you are a parent and a writer, it can be particularly stressful as you have to constantly stay focused and be on top of your writing tasks. Life can always get in the way, and the stress of family responsibilities can be overwhelming.

As a parent, I make sure that my two kids eat healthily, so putting freshly cooked food on the table is always a priority. However, if you prepare your meals from scratch(as I like to do it), then you know this can take a long time! Peeling and chopping your vegetables and cooking down the meats until they are of tender texture, is a pain-staking process.

Being a traditional home cook, it used to take me at least 30 minutes to cook a family meal from scratch, sometimes more. But luckily, the Instant Pot pressure cooker changed my life.

I got a pressure cooker as a birthday gift from my mother-in-law a few months ago, and I can’t thank her enough for that.

My family enjoys a variety of foods from different cuisines, and we never like to eat the same food for more than two days. Since I started cooking most of my meals in a pressure cooker, the process of cooking became much easier and more enjoyable.

From breakfast meals with no hassles to quick dinners, the Pressure cooker serves as my assistant in the kitchen! If I need to make pasta, no problem — I put it in the pressure cooker and it cooks it in 12 minutes tops. I need hard-boiled eggs for breakfast, the pressure cooker will cook it in 7 minutes for me. I need to make a quick chili, it only takes 15 minutes with the canned beans. Our all-time family favorite rice pilaf — only takes 17 minutes!

Here are the benefits of having a Pressure cooker:

1) It saves me time and energy

This is a huge deal for me. Having two children, quick meals put on the table is a priority. I also like to be creative in the kitchen and tweak with my recipes in different ways. The pressure cooker can accommodate that for me.

2) It allows for less clean-up

Since I’m only using one pan for cooking, I don’t have to worry about cleaning dirty pots and pans. The pressure cooker can do it all- sauteeing, frying, and steaming.

3) It is a great time-saver for big dinners

Sometimes you want to cook more than one dish. Imagine how much time you will spend cooking multiple dishes.

I love cooking big family meals on special occasions, such as birthdays and holidays. The pressure cooker can take the weight off my shoulders and do half of the work for me.

For example, I put in roast beef in the pressure cooker, and by the time I finish cooking the side dish on the stove, the main dish is also ready. The quality of food is also amazing — the meats come out tender and full of flavor.

3) It is simple and easy to use

When I first got the pressure cooker, I thought it would be hard to use, but as it turned out, it wasn’t. Once you get used to it, it becomes super easy for anyone to use.

Cooking should be fun, but it should not feel like a burden. Now I can take more time off to relax and enjoy a longer break from family responsibilities. I can also use more time I save from cooking and do things I love the most — such as writing.

Once you feel that you have more control over your time, life as a parent becomes more manageable, and you enjoy your life as a parent as opposed to being a worker.
