How Practising Gratitude Daily Changed My Life Forever

Mindfulness, wellness, and self-care have become all the rage recently, and honestly, I think it’s great!

I am by no means an expert, I’m not a coach (yet), and I haven’t studied psychology. However, I have been practising gratitude for the past three years, and the positive impact on my life has been significant.

It’s true I’m a naturally positive person, I tend to see the good in people and situations, and I’m smiling more than I’m not. But practising gratitude took this to the next level.

In 2020, just before the pandemic, I broke off my engagement, as a response to finding out he wasn’t as loyal as I thought. Overnight my whole life unexpectedly changed (something in hindsight, I’m very grateful for).

After the tears, I pulled myself together and found myself practising gratitude, at first it was accidental, but once I started seeing the benefits, I instilled a daily habit.

3 reasons practising gratitude daily changed my life:

  • Reflection: Taking time to reflect on your life and your achievements is so underrated. The daily habit of practising gratitude forced me to take a moment to think. It forced me to reflect on my journey and identify all the magical moments I have achieved. It forced me to appreciate my journey, live in the moment and look forward to the future.
  • Butterfly effect: I noticed that the more I practised gratitude, I stopped keeping it for myself and started thanking people for [insert action], I shared what I was grateful for on my Instagram and lived my values of gratefulness. What happened next amazed me, people in my environment started doing the same. I received thank you messages for being an inspiration for [insert action]. Now, I wasn’t looking for this recognition, but it felt good. I experienced first-hand that you do attract what you put out.
  • Peace: Now my life isn’t perfect, it’s not all sunshine and good times. But even on the harder days, I have an abundance of reasons to be grateful and that brings me so much peace that I keep going. Tomorrow is another day!

I strongly encourage you to start creating a habit of gratitude, especially if you are someone who struggles to find reasons to be grateful.

Start by writing just one thing a day, more will come.

Today, I’m grateful for you. Thank you for taking the time to read my piece.

Shine bright.

If you like my writing and feel inclined to support my journey, you can help me shine brighter by buying me a coffee. Your kindness means a lot! Thank you so much for your support.
