How Positivity Can Turn Your Life Around If Only You Believe
Implementing positivity principles to help you reach your full potential
More than likely you’ve heard of the positivity principles. There are many, but here are just a few of them.
- Believe in yourself.
- Let your mind restore your energy.
- Remember that you are responsible for your own happiness.
- Always expect the best, not the worst.
- Don’t believe in defeat.
They all sound like great ideas don’t they. I certainly think they do. But human nature allows negative thoughts to creep in and ruin things. It’s sad, but true.
How many times have you said, I can’t do that, or I’m afraid to do that, or that something is just too hard? I’ve said these things to myself more times than I can count and guess what the result was? I couldn’t do it, and I was afraid so I didn’t do it, and because it was too hard, I didn’t do it. I got just what I said, nothing because I didn’t try and I didn’t believe in myself.
Essentially, we get what we think about because of the spin we put on that thought either positive or negative. For illustrative purposes, let’s take writing on Medium as an example.
We all want to be successful on Medium whether we’re willing to admit it or not. We want to be read, we want to become prolific, and we want to make money. The sad fact though, is that not everyone will achieve that level of success. There are many that will start writing on Medium with gusto and because they don’t achieve overnight success either quit or at the least begin to doubt their abilities.
If we take a look at the few principles I’ve listed, which one suffered? The easy answer is that the writer stopped believing in themselves. This one no matter what you are trying to accomplish MUST be followed, “Believe in yourself.” If you don’t do it no one else can do it for you and you will be doomed to fail. In this state of mind, failure can be devastating and put an end to your writing pursuits.
This same writer, with a belief in themselves and their abilities, would realize that most times success takes time. They also realize that they have a lot to learn about online writing. Because they have a lot to learn, they take the initiative to gain the knowledge needed to be a success.
This writer, with a positive attitude and self-belief, didn’t quit but instead is doing something proactive to become the success they want to be. They didn’t lose faith in themselves and will therefore continue on with their writing pursuits.
Continuing with the writer example, this same person with the negative attitude is also now expecting the worst, not the best from their efforts, another of the positivity principles.
If they expect the worst, that is just what they will get and will view even small successes as failures and actual failures as reinforcement of their deficiencies. This is unhealthy and unproductive.
The person with the positive attitude goes into their writing session expecting the best, never the worst. They believe that small improvements and successes are encouraging and that failures are simply a learning experience. These events signal to this person that their proactivity is paying off.
Ultimately, who is the one you think will be successful? It’s pretty obvious that the person with the positive attitude is most likely to succeed.
So, my question to you is, why would you want to dwell on the negative? This only brings you more of what you don’t want, while leaving you watching what you do want pass you by. That is no way to live.
Don’t let someone, including yourself, tell you that you can’t do something. You can do anything if you are willing to put the effort forth and try. Failure is in not trying, not in trying and failing.
Take each failure as a learning opportunity on your way to success. We all fail, but few of us rise up to succeed.
Until next time…
