How People Make Over 1,000$ By Making Simple Mobile Games

Those simple “ball games” on Google Play Store can make you pretty good ad revenue.

We’ve all downloaded one of those games from the Google Play Store or App Store, were you intensely move a ball or some other object and try to collect as many coins or stars as you can without falling or burning. Not going to lie, they are pretty addicting. But why?

All of those “easy to make games” usually follow the same pattern as always, but with just a little bit of changes in the mission of the game. It often goes like this: “Hold down to move the ball”, “ Don’t fall off the edge”, “Collect as many gummy bears as you can!”. Real simple. And that is the reason people get addicted so easily. It’s an easy way to burn time while waiting for the bus or your friend because in those simple games you don’t have to think that much as you would need to for example in a strategy game. Now how does it make the developer so much money if you’re not even making any microtransactions inside the game?

Ad revenue.

Ad revenue is the fountain where the money falls from for you to collect. I think you’ve noticed, that in those games almost even every other time you fail, the game forces you to watch an ad. Now that’s not even the only way to get you to watch those ads. Nowadays you can get the selected in-game currency by watching for example a 30-second video without skipping it. Usually, that makes even more revenue than the forced ads. With all these ways to get you into watching ads after ads, the game developer earns good revenue from advertising other games and apps that pay those advertisement companies to get advertised.

Now how well will it make money for you? The average amount you get when a user is playing your game and stumbles upon an ad or two is about 0.10$/day/user. Now think that your game went a little viral with 25,000 downloads and players watch 1–10 ads a day. Depending on how much your game forces the ads, 25,000 downloads can make you around 900$–2,500$ even in the first week. For that to happen, you also need luck.

Is it a job for you?

Those mobile games are usually made with some kind of software, that is used to create those particular mobile games. Unity, UnReal and couple others make it pretty standard to create something new and exciting using the skill of coding in C# or C++ languages. You might be thinking that coding seems too difficult for you, but you’d be surprised after watching a couple of videos from YouTube on how does it work. Especially with the “ball moving games”. There are even ready-made templates for you to download and just make your changes and then, you’re ready to publish your first mobile game.

An Idea.

When building the next new hit game on the market, the thing that game developers most importantly need is an idea worth creating into a game. No one is going to download a game that has already been made for the 100th time. You also need to have a unique idea with the game. Something addicting. That is how you get your audience hooked. The more you can come up with useless features for your game, usually, the more people will play it.
