How Our Connection With Animals Can Rescue a Trampled Soul
Watch what happens when you treat an animal with kindness

Absentmindedly she licked her knife. This criminal act sparked off the Dynamite; he exploded.
In floods of tears, she was ostracised to her room while the rest carried on with their meal. Moments later, her twin sister also licked a knife and glanced cheekily up at the Dynamite. They exchanged looks. Dynamite smiled at her twin besottedly, and pleasantries continued.
Little me remained in the bedroom. Devastated and isolated. Once again, serving a sentence that did not fit the crime, handed out by a biased and corrupt judicial system!
Favoritism in parents is excruciatingly damaging. I am still enduring the trauma of my childhood experiences. I have a long way to go. I was made to feel inferior, worthless, and inadequate. He didn’t understand why I couldn’t be more like her, who was more like him. Heck, he wanted me to be a mini him. Luckily I was, and still am, far from being like him!
I was never good enough.
Children emulate their parent's behavior. Every day was filled with mocking, ridicule, and scathing remarks. My birth-sharing playmate became my worst bully. Encouraged by the man who was meant to love and protect me. But he wanted to carve me into his version of me. How dare I have my own ideas and interests!
Her confidence soared, and mine plummeted.
Her self-esteem flourished, and mine crashed.
I found comfort with my face buried deep in a horse's mane. I grew my sense of worth leading gentle giants to and from their fields and building mutual trust. Experiencing the world astride a humble horse is medicinal.
I developed my wordless language of kindness with my pawed and hooved friends.
I always carried an affinity for animals. From as far back as I can remember, I was drawn to fur and whiskers over and above my skinned companions.
Animals did not single me out from others. They did not laugh at my sensitivities or batter my psyche. Animals brought me present-time joy. I could will away the hours playing with my guinea pigs or tickling my dogs.
My childhood dogs did not scrutinize me. They didn’t ask me to be someone else. They didn’t criticize every little thing I did. Their love and affection were consistent and encouraging.
A wagging dog tail can light up life, and velvet equine kisses can fill a soul.
My animals pulled me up when I was held down in the dirt. They rescued my spirit and helped me puff up my soul. Animals made me feel loved.
The magic of animals helped me grow wings and escape my cage. Thanks to my furry friends, this little child was rescued when she was in most need.
Animals taught me to give and accept love.
