Summary

The article discusses the optimal frequency for posting content on X/Twitter to maximize engagement and growth, suggesting at least 3-7 times a day.

Abstract

The article "How Often Should You Post on X/Twitter Each Day?" addresses the common question of how frequent one should post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. It emphasizes the extremely short lifespan of posts on X, necessitating more frequent posting compared to platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The author recommends preparing and scheduling posts in advance, aiming for 5-7 tweets per day during peak audience times, an approach that contributed to their substantial follower growth. The article cites digital marketing expert Neil Patel, who advises posting on X at least 3 times a day, as the platform's unique algorithm allows for frequent posting without harming reach, thus serving as an effective content testing ground. Additionally, the author suggests that instead of multiple posts, one well-crafted, high-value thread or long-form post can also be effective. Consistent engagement with the audience and aligning social media activity with one's schedule are also highlighted as important strategies.

Opinions

  • Posts on X have a very short lifespan, requiring frequent posting to maintain visibility.
  • Aiming for 5-7 tweets a day can lead to significant growth, as experienced by the author with a gain of 16,000 followers in one year.
  • X is unique in that more frequent posting does not negatively impact overall account reach.
  • Posting more often allows for quicker determination of effective content.
  • High-value threads or long-form posts can be an alternative to multiple daily posts.
  • Engaging with the audience and aligning social media activity with personal schedules are key to a successful social media presence.
  • The ultimate goal of social media activity should be to direct followers toward one's email list for sustained engagement.

How Often Should You Post on X/Twitter Each Day?

Gotta keep chirpin’ on the former Bird App.

I see this question a lot, and I’ve often grappled with it myself.

Posts on X (formerly Twitter) have an extremely short lifespan and usually disappear into the ether almost immediately.

You need to post on X more frequently than on other social media platforms.

With Facebook, for instance, you could get away with one post a day. Maybe less. Instagram’s similiar.

But X needs to be fed multiple times every day.

Feeding the beast

The best way to manage this is to prepare your posts in advance and use a scheduling platform to send them out automatically.

You can also identify your best-performing posts and reshare them. I’ve been doing this for a while now.

Back in Twitter’s heyday, I generally aimed to tweet 5–7 times a day at opportune moments when I knew my audience was online.

That approach led to substantial growth. I picked up around 16,000 followers in 2022 alone.

Since then, however, growth on X has been difficult. But it’s not impossible.

Let’s go back to that Neil Patel article again. He suggests the ideal posting frequency for X is at least 3 times a day, because:

“X is different than most platforms.

Whether your content is amazing or terrible, posting more often doesn’t hurt your overall account’s reach.

So if you post 3 or 4 times a day if not even more… assuming you have the time… you can quickly tell what works on social media and what doesn’t. In other words, you are using X as a testing bed for your content.

You can then use your hits and post them on the remaining social networks as they are a bit more pick on posting frequency.”

Another option is to publish just once, but do so with an extensive, high-value thread or long-form post.

Make it serve your purpose

Either way, take the time to continue engaging with your audience consistently, and always aim to deliver the best possible value.

And make it work with your schedule.

As long as your social media presence nudges followers toward your email list, it’s still worth spending time on each platform.

Even X.
