How My First 20 Articles on Newsbreak Performed After Monetisation
A very varied bunch!
I was pretty disappointed after I got approved for monetisation on Newsbreak because my views fell through the floor. But some stories started to gain some decent reads after a while.
Here’s how the impressions and views have looked since monetisation kicked in. Impressions are the number of times your story appears on readers’ feeds. Views are the number of people who have clicked through to read a story. Newsbreak doesn’t distinguish between views and reads.

How do the earnings fare? Well, they’re not disastrous. I believe we’re not allowed to discuss Newsbreak earnings, but they’re better than my first month on Medium. So I’ll continue and try to do more on subjects that do relatively well, and less on those that don’t.
Some of these articles are starting to clock up some decent views, but they still fall well short of the 100,000-200,000 impressions that I was achieving on my best stories before monetisation. However, I’m hopeful that I can refine my approach to make Newsbreak worthwhile.
They are pushing local news stories more, so anything that’s local to a particular US region will be rewarded better than national or international news.
