How My Etsy Shop Crashed and Burned — The Hard Lessons I Learned from Failing
Yes, I failed in my Etsy side hustle.
I did not expect this would happen… It was so hard for me to come out of that situation.
Out of nowhere, Etsy closed down my shop. The worst thing is I don't know the reason yet…
I thought, Why not share this experience with you guys?
Maybe this would create awareness for people who are planning to open an Etsy shop.

I noticed that numerous Etsy sellers are selling design bundles of digital files such as SVG, PNG, JPG, and DXF and making impressive sales.
I did not know about this opportunity before like people are earning money even by selling digital files on platforms like Etsy.
So, this inspired me to create some digital files on my own and sell them on Etsy.
That’s how my journey started with Etsy as one of my side hustles
I registered as a seller on Etsy. Started creating Tshirt designs, Coffee Mug Designs, SVGs, Printables, etc
May 2022
I diligently worked on creating my digital designs and uploading them on Etsy consistently.
Yeah, I got my first sale this month, was really happy about that.
This motivated me to create more digital files, I enjoyed this process and had more fun with Etsy.
I became even more engrossed in the world of Etsy and began to rely on it more for my side hustle.
June 2022
After 2 months with Etsy, My sales gradually increased on daily basis… I was getting excellent feedback from customers about my designs.
As a result, my earnings started to reach a minimum of $100 per day, and it was a fantastic feeling to see my hard work paying off.
July 2022 —Sep 2022
I decided to invest some money in advertising my designs on Etsy..
I started spending $20 daily. Then $50, $100…
My sales got doubled or even tripled afterward and it was an incredible feeling of accomplishment.
Oct 2022
So things were going great… It was one morning I tried to log in to my Etsy shop as usual and could not log in. I thought might be a password issue. Tried to log in again.
But it still did not work. What’s going on here?
I tried to contact Etsy and could not find their customer care number anywhere. Very much frustrated!
To make matters worse, I had around $700 in earnings in my shop that were now inaccessible. Etsy had taken away my earnings as well. That’s too bad!
Finally, I found an email ID to report this issue with Etsy. I sent an email multiple times stating this issue but I received no response.
I waited for a couple of months for Etsy to reopen my shop, but nothing happened, but nothing happened.
You know, I created more designs to sell on Etsy. But my time, effort everything had gone to waste. It was a really tough time for me.. Because I never ever expected this.
I knew, I was going through so much pain..I can only worry.. Nothing is going to change until and unless if I change something and move forward…
Then, I started to focus on my next side hustle… Etsy was just one of my side hustles. I already have some other side hustle and started creating another as well now…
It’s been almost 6 months now since Etsy closed my shop…Now I am creating a website to sell all my digital designs (which I worked for Etsy) independently.
Just like the famous quote by Warren Buffet “One should never put all one’s eggs in one basket”.
Always have a backup plan to manage this kind of situation…Try to have another side hustle if possible.
