How much tagging is OK?

Tagging as a source of sharing or distraction?

Don’t get me wrong, I love getting tagged here on Medium.

The purpose of this article is to build awareness about tagging.

What about the quality of tagging? How much tagging is enough? Are there guidelines for proper tagging?

“My students tag tables, walls, and chairs because their greatest fear is that no one will ever remember them. They do not believe they can give impassioned speeches, rally people in protest, paint masterpieces. They think they will die, small and forgotten, and it dictates their every action.” — Thomm Quackenbush —

Getting tagged from a fellow writer builds up expectations, excitement.

But lately, more often than not, I open a story, which is loaded with other stories.

Everywhere. All around the article. Inside out, outside in.

OK, I’m probably exaggerating a bit, but this is only to make a point. And I personally don’t mind when these referrals are at the end of the story.

The original story is losing its point, its value, as well as my interest to it.

Sadly.

Shouldn’t tagging and referring to other stories serve a purpose. Meaningless mass tagging and sharing feels like advertisement.

Advertisement = distraction.

Do we want advertisement on Medium? No, we do not. Or do we?

Greetings to all my fellow writers in ILLUMINATION publication.
