How much money do mobile apps make per month? $10, $100, $1000 (and why you should build one?)

How much money do mobile apps make per month? I asked the question last year and started searching for an answer everywhere. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any clear answer.

So I made my own apps!

The first mobile app (Android App):

Pomodoro App: If you are unfamiliar with the Pomodoro Technique is a time management method based on 25-minute stretches of focused work broken by five-minute breaks. After a set of four sessions, you take a fifteen-minute break.

I made this app in less than one month, working on it as a side hustle, and I was also learning how to make my first mobile app.

This app started earning me ~ $50 a month passively without doing anything.

$50 for sure will not make you rich, of course, but it’s still a nice cash flow to add to your passive income sources.

Also, I have learned a lot from making my first app, the mistakes I have made, and what obstacles I have faced!

So I decided to make another app.

The second mobile app (Android and IOS):

Fasted: Fasted is an intermittent fasting app to help you track fasting, water intake, and body weight.

I’m so happy to say that my game has been downloaded more than 10K times with an average rating of 4.6 stars on Playstore and also AppStore!

I was getting 200 downloads on a daily basis.

Monetization:

I was trying to implement the Admob monetization strategy, but it turned out more challenging than expected. In order for me not to lose my client base, I decided that increasing ads would be key in case people don’t like them or find an ad too annoying and then decrease when earning enough money so as not to disappoint those new users coming onto your platform due their curiosity regarding what exactly Ads are all about.”

I was earning around $300 per month only from ads.

The other solution to make money is through In-App purchases. With a freemium model, I had a simple premium plan for my app that disabled ads and tracked weight with only $4 worth of lifetime charges.

I was making $150 on Appstore and $120 monthly.

In total, I am making around $500 a month without doing anything!

Why you should build one too?

I tried many ways to earn passive income, from blogging, affiliation, and selling themes.

I can confirm that the best way to make passive income that keeps earning you money with less effort is through mobile apps.

Note: I make $8k a month as a front-end developer and full-time freelancer, but I don’t like this lifestyle of working 9 to 5. If you are like me, you should start making mobile apps too!

The next challenge for me is to earn $1000 with one mobile app.
