How much Medium Pays Me For 1 minute of Read Time.
It’s a fixed amount and doesn’t vary.
Yesterday I was watching a video about Medium Earnings from the top writers of Medium and I was shocked to see some huge figures. Some Writers actually made around 10k $ from their writings. Listening to these figures, I wondered what medium pays for 1 minute of member read time.
For those who don’t know what read time means, It is the time spent by the readers on my article. It completely depends on readers who have a paid medium membership and we writers get paid based upon the time paid members spend on our articles.
Let’s do some calculation to find out how much medium pays me if you readers read my article for 1 complete minute.
Firstly,
Views and claps don’t matter on Medium.
If my article gets 10,000 views and none of the readers actually read it, I will end up getting 0 dollars. Yes, that’s true. Also, claps don’t matter at all.
Medium actually counts the total time spent by a reader on my article. If 10 users read my article for 3 minutes each, then my total read time of that article will be 30 minutes and I will be paid accordingly.
Let’s Calculate.
I wrote a short article recently and published it to see the results. After seeing the stats I was quite surprised.

As you can see I was paid 7 cents for 2 min 50 sec of Read time.
It means 1 cent for 30 seconds.
Hence, 2 cents for 1 minute.
I tried this calculation with all of my articles and the amount remained same.
Medium pays 0.02 $ for 1 minute of read time.
(Quick Fact — I deleted the demo article, so don’t go to find it. )
