How Much I’ve Made from Upwork

Upwork is a freelancer marketplace I joined several years ago. They are a place where clients and freelancers can meet up and work together on projects.

Win-win!

What’s Upwork?

It’s a freelancer marketplace where clients and freelancers can collaborate on projects.

For example, a client might be looking for their ebook to be ghostwritten so they will hire a ghostwriter freelancer to do the work for them.

There’s many ways you can get paid, from milestone payments, up front payment or payment at project end.

You can work multiple projects at once and the potential to make a lot of money exists.

Some Upwork freelancers make six figures on the platform every year.

Who Upwork is for?

It’s for freelancers looking for work.

Whether you’re a seasoned freelancer or new to freelancing, Upwork is a place where you can make money for your skills.

There are a bunch of projects available at all times for a variety of skill sets from animation, video editing, social media management, virtual assistance, and more.

It’s user-friendly for the client and freelancer. I’ve had both roles, both hiring freelancers for projects I had and doing client work as a freelancer myself.

I joined Upwork as I was transitioning from e-commerce into freelance writing.

I used the skills I acquired and developed in my e-commerce business to work for clients in the space of social media management and writing primarily.

What I did on Upwork

I did a bunch of freelance gig work on Upwork from:

  • Pinterest management
  • Social media management
  • Freelance writing
  • And, more!

When I was consistent, I was consistent, booking multiple gigs and winning client projects.

I developed a proposal that I really liked and seemed to get good results from.

The template looked something like this..

“Hey there,

Brief intro of who I am and why I’m good for the gig. I mentioned some points the client brought up and shared a success story. Then, I thanked them for considering me.”

I tried keeping my cover letter as short as possible, making sure to cater to the client that was looking to hire for their project.

I did this off and on for a few years.

Upwork Now vs. Upwork Then

Since I first joined Upwork, it’s become super saturated and though it’s still a source of work, I find it very competitive in my niche. I still hop on the platform though, from time to time.

How much I made from Upwork

This much…

Upwork

$8K+ on platform and tens of thousands of dollars off platform, thanks to Upwork. More on this in another story.
