How Much Do You Plan to Write Your First Month on Medium?

Here are how my results turned out. Hope it helps you!

A lot of people start the 30-day writing challenge to write one article per day.

It didn’t work for me at first. Stretching the stiff writing muscle was really hard.

Then I got into a rhythm. I would write a batch of headlines with outlines on the weekend, then fill in the details daily and publish that article.

It worked pretty well! I was less overwhelmed because I wasn’t starting from a blank page.

I opened my Drafts and there were 20 or 30 drafts sitting there, waiting to be finished. I already had the headlines done, too.

Did it work?

I was able to do three articles the first two weeks, then the last two weeks I did sixteen articles total.

It sounds like a lot, but most of them were 1-minute or 2-minute reads.

It seems that a combination of short and long articles have done well for my earnings, but everyone has their own opinion about it.

The longer articles I have written were in a research-paper style and bored everyone to death, so they didn’t earn much.

What helps with motivation?

It may help you to set aside a block time during the day for Writing Only. When the baby is asleep, I’m writing.

It’s the only thing I do during that time, and it ensures that I’m able to produce enough content.

The problem lies in all the other nonsense I want to do during writing time!

I want to read/comment on people’s articles to build followers.

I want to check my email and reply to comments.

I want to create Pinterest title pins on Canva.

I relegate all those extra tasks to the weekend when I have extra time.

Takeaway Tips

  • Create a bunch of drafts on the weekend with writing prompts and Headlines finished
  • Set aside a couple of blocks of time daily called Writing Only
  • Don’t write at other random times because you may get burnt out
  • Spend time with your family and don’t obsess about writing
  • Do all the extra tasks on the weekend
