How Much Did My Medium Boost Actually Boost Me?

An update at the one-week mark

A week ago, I received an email, letting me know that I had been selected for my first (hopeful it won’t be the only) Boost.

I was very excited, of course. All of us appreciate some indication that we are on the right track at least, even if we don’t feel like we are really anywhere near the finish line.

It was one of my poems that had been selected, which didn’t surprise me. I had heard that Medium would possibly be looking for poems in April more than other months since April is National Poetry Month.

When I received the email, I hurried over and took a screenshot of the stats of the story in question, in hopes of being better able to track how much it actually benefitted me.

Klara Jane Holloway and Graham Lilley both expressed specific interest in reading a follow-up, and I had already thought of writing one at the one-week mark, just in case some people might be curious.

Whether we have been Boosted or are still waiting, I think that knowing how things work out for other people can help us feel motivated to keep moving forward with our own goals.

So, without dilly-dallying any further, for the first check on Like a Busy Little Bee, I had 175 views, my earnings for the story were at $1.19, and my reads were at just 54, sitting at a read ratio of 31% (depressing, I know).

I saw a spike in views/reads from the 22nd, when I received the Boost, through the 26th.

Today, the stats on that poem are at 799 views, earnings of $9.37, and reads at 233, dropping the read ratio to 29% as of now.

I don’t anticipate seeing any more movement on this one, since there have been almost zero nibbles from the 27th through today.

Did the Boost make me rich? Absolutely not. But was it wonderful just the same? It sure was. :)

I gained 53 new followers over the last week, and I believe many of them found me through the Boosted story. A couple have stuck around and read more of my stories, and I have read theirs.

Overall, I would say the Boost is very useful, as long as you go into it with realistic expectations.

I am sure everyone will have varying results, and some people may even make some serious money on the stories that are Boosted.

As for me, I am hoping I might have more Boosts in the future, and in the meantime, I will keep writing whatever I feel like putting on paper when I feel like it.

Medium can be discouraging in a lot of ways for those of us who may have over-achiever stamped on our foreheads, but we decide whether or not we are successful, and I am still leaning toward declaring my time here as a raging success. :)

Peace and love, y’all. ❤
