How Much A Web Page With 500+ Traffic/m Can Earn You (Affiliate)

Even a new website can earn money if you know what to write about.

Affiliate marketing is a lucrative direction, where even beginners can earn up to $1,000 per month, according to Influencer Marketing Hub.

It attracts many content creators, bloggers, and businesses because many want to earn easy money overnight.

I am sure you’ve seen ads where some rich guys promise to teach you how to quickly grow your affiliate income from 0 to six figures. They assure you they’ve built an affiliate income empire, which lets them retire early and live their dream life.

However, they won’t tell you it took them years of consistent work to get noticed and earn some affiliate commissions.

Perhaps, they earned nothing during their first years of operation. They might have struggled to scale their business and make a living from their business. Slowly but consistently, they managed to achieve success.

Affiliate marketing is usually a long and challenging way without any guarantees. It does not work differently.

However, most people don’t have the patience to wait long for results. That’s why the majority will fail without seeing promised results.

I am against exaggerating affiliate marketing potential.

It definitely works.

However, how it works is different for everyone.

Let me show you how much my website earns, even though I’ve never built it with affiliate income in mind.

How my website makes money

If you’ve been following me for a while, you might know I launched a website in August 2021 as an environment for my marketing experiments.

Back then, my site had an ugly design, no message, and no value for users.

I used it to experiment with content format, optimization strategies, and new tools. I still run experiments on my website, such as exploring the impact of AI-generated content for SEO.

However, my website has changed a lot in one year.

Here is what changed:

  • Website traffic grew from 0 to almost 5,000 visitors per month
  • The number of indexed pages grew from 0 to 50+
  • The number of pages ranking in the top 10 increased from 0 to 14
  • I changed the website copy and main message 3 times
  • My website helps me show and prove my expertise

In a nutshell, a website is a must for content creators and marketing specialists who want to do an online business.

Despite working on my website only a few hours a week, it grows slowly but consistently. I have a few traffic acquisition channels, like Medium and Quora, but my primary traffic acquisition source is organic search.

As of today, my website gets roughly 76.83% of all of its traffic from organic search results. To say more, my website was barely affected by Google’s core and helpful content updates. Therefore, it is slowly growing with each new optimized content piece I publish.

Here is how the number of impressions and clicks grows over time:

Since organic traffic is growing, I added multiple new income-generation sources to my website. Here they are for your inspiration.

A good month is when my website generates $1,000-$2,500, including affiliate income and sales.

Surprisingly, most of my affiliate income is generated by one blog post!

Let me share what I did and how I achieved it so you can achieve even better results.

How much an average web page with 500+ traffic/m earn

Each of my website categories was created with a purpose.

SEO writing — to show my SEO expertise and attract potential clients.

Creator tools — to share honest tool reviews.

Medium writing — to share my Medium writing journey and show my writing experience.

Writing side hustles — to share available side hustles and show my results.

Creator tools” is the only website category that generates affiliate income. In fact, one blog post generates most of my affiliate income.

It is the Beehiiv review.

Beehiiv is a relatively new email platform launched in 2021 by Benjamin Hargett and Tyler Denk, who was formerly a product manager at Google.

I’ve heard about Beehiiv from Tim Denning on Medium. Later, I noticed that the keyword difficulty of the “Beehiiv” keyword was 1/100, according to Ahrefs.

So, I wrote an in-depth platform review featuring my opinion and experience.

My blog post reached the top 10 Google search pages a few weeks after publication. It ranks 2nd now for the “Beehiiv” keyword.

I achieved it by creating an optimized blog post with zero link-building!

The platform is indeed powerful and continuously adds new features for content creators. I might switch to Beehiiv from Convertkit, even though it’s technically not a fast process.

Like many other online tools, Beehiiv has an affiliate program for content creators willing to promote the email software. I joined their partner program in May 2022 after publishing my Beehiiv review.

The page has been live for over 11 months. Here is how the traffic has grown:

How my blog post about Beehiiv performs. Source: Google Analytics

A single blog post ranking on the first Google search result page for the target keywords brings roughly 500 organic visitors monthly!

Whenever someone becomes my paid referrer, I get the following email from Beehiiv:

Email from Beehiiv.

$449.50 is my biggest one-time affiliate commission earned from Beehiiv.

The growth plan costs $49/m and generates a $24.50 commission at a time, while the scale plan is $99/m and generates a $49.50 commission at a time. I usually get these commissions.

However, affiliate commissions can be much higher if your referrer purchases a custom solution, like in my case above.

The following screenshot shows how much a single article earned me in March 2023:

I have multiple tools review pages, but none perform as well as the web page about Beehiiv.

I am not hiding the results. Instead, I publicly share them so more content creators using Beehiiv can benefit from this opportunity.

Affiliate commissions are money you can earn while you sleep if you dare to do some hard work.

In conclusion

I want to conclude this short and hopefully insightful story by answering a popular question that does not seem to have a concrete answer — Do you need a niche to earn affiliate commissions?

Many established Medium content creators and beyond say you don’t need to niche down to make affiliate commissions.

As an SEO specialist, I disagree.

This strategy won’t work if you want to acquire traffic from organic search results consistently.

Here is why.

Without going into technical details — Google wants to serve users with fresh and helpful content created by skilled and knowledgeable experts.

You have to consistently create content around your expertise domain to acquire trust.

Additionally, you have to conduct keyword research to define easy-to-rank keywords in your niche.

Luckily, every niche has many low-hanging fruits; you just have to know how to look for them.
