How Many Guys Are in a Girl’s Dm at Every Given Time?

I did a social experiment on my social media and this is the answer I got

I’ll start with a little confession. I’ve asked a couple of girls out in my life with varying degrees of success. Sometimes, there was chemistry and we hit it right off. Other times, I was turned down or worse, ignored.

The times when I’ve been ignored hurt the most. I mean, how can you pretend like I didn’t just send you a text asking you out to dinner? It is obvious you read the text because Instagram says you did, so how can you just leave me on read? Do I look like a fly to you?

When the chemistry is right and there is a connection, the adrenaline can be amazing; those times when you smile softly to a text and then you realize, “damn! She makes me smile”.

Yesterday, I had an emergency. I had to re-submit my passport in person for some application I was doing, but I was out of time. Luckily, Elena is a good friend of mine and she was able to come through for me. As a show of thanks, I told Elena I would bring her some flowers when I come back to town at the weekend. I won’t lie, her reply surprised me a bit.

She told me not to worry about the flowers. Three guys are currently asking her out, so was sure she would get some flowers anyway.

Three guys? At the same time?

This got me thinking about all the times I tried to ask a lady out. I must have slid into her DMs feeling all fly and mighty. But how many guys were in her DMs at the same time? What an interesting question.

Out of curiosity, I did a little social experiment. I asked a couple of my female friends the same question. The question was ‘How many guys are asking you out on average at every given time’.

And then the responses started pouring in.

“Actually, three guys have already asked me what my plans for the weekend are”.

This was the first reply I got.

Oh wow, three guys? This must be an uncanny coincidence.

The replies all had the same pattern; on average there was more than one guy asking the ladies out at every time — at least for the ladies I asked. For some ladies, it was one guy at a time. Another lady said one guy every 2 days. Yet another lady said 2–3 guys every few days.

But one number kept repeating itself, the number 3.

Wait a minute. If 3 guys are asking you out every single time, it means that for every girl I ever find the courage to say hi to in the DM, 2 other guys are doing the same. Maybe they don’t even just say hi like shy me. Maybe they tell her sweeter things than I do, with punchlines that are as sharp as a butcher’s knife.

In case you’ve been reading up to this point, there is no moral to this story, no no no. This isn’t one of those stories that end with a big fat lesson on how to live your life. On the other hand, my little experiment was just to satisfy my nagging curiosity.

There’s only one takeout from this article and it is this; the magic number is 3.

Now do with that whatever you may. Good luck!
