How Long Did It Take For Me To Realize I Married A Monster?

From every wound there is a scar, and every scar tells a story. A story that says, “I survived.” — Craig Scott

There is one universal truth, applicable to all countries, cultures and communities: violence against women is never acceptable, never excusable, never tolerable. — Ban Ki-moon

In 2015, I married a monster. After three weeks, my thought was what the hell I have got myself into. Because after three weeks he hit me for the first time and his parents were busy convincing me that as a woman I need to learn how to adjust. Man can lose his temper and raise hands. You need not react.

My response to that was hurling abuse at them and hitting their son back to show them that’s how the work is done. Who gives these highly insensitive and insane men the right to hit women? I have no regrets about hitting him back. He made me bleed and I did the same but this thing didn’t last for long.

I got tired of doing this and finally, I moved out of that abusive relationship.

Men are physically stronger than women and we cannot fight them all the time. It doesn’t drain you physically but mentally and emotionally too. I wasn’t born to do all this but then circumstances and time makes you learn a lot.

An abusive relationship is like a poison and you swallow that poison every day to make your way out of it but in reality, it swallows you more than you swallow it.

Men need to grow up a lot in this world. I have read books from the US authors where women were beaten up like a piece of shit and so many still hide their scars even when they get slapped because for them slapping is not abuse.

It is.

Forget about physical abuse, what about emotional, mental, and verbal abuse?

Abuse is abuse. I don’t take abuse from anyone. I am teaching my estranged husband a lesson that men in his family won’t dare to date or marry a Sikh woman.

Please beware of us. We are stronger than you could think of.
