How Influencers Ruined Coachella

What once was an event for music has now become an event for clout

If a genie were to give me three wishes in high school. They would be eating without gaining weight, having my crush fall head over heels for me, and going to Coachella. My 10th-grade imagination thought that a trip to Coachella would have been a much-needed vacation that would impact my character development.

When I was in high school Coachella was a forbidden tale. Sure I’ve heard of people going but it seemed so far from reach. I was in high school during the 2010s before influencer culture dugs its teeth into us.

You know all those influencers that go to Coachella to make us feel like we’re missing out. Yeah… I’m talking about those influencers.

I don’t want to shame anyone for wanting to go to Coachella. I don’t want to be the girl who sees you wearing a Metallica shirt and tries to shame you if you only know one song.

We’re all entitled to wear what we want and go to what we want. Hey if someone offered me free tickets to go to Coachella I wouldn’t think twice about accepting them.

However Coachella today has become a place where the idea of being there is more important than the actual experience.

Influencers are able to get into the festival for free. Due to being partnered with a brand trip, they get access to events that we normies don’t get the chance to. Some brands will even fly them out on a private jet.

Brands giving influencers free passes only adds fire to the FOMO narrative. If you didn’t wear an outstanding outfit to Coachella and post about it was it even worth it?

Yes, I’m looking at you, James Charles!

Even the price of the tickets has gone up dramatically.

General Admission passes for three days are $549 compared to the original price of $50. That’s only the beginning, we haven’t talked about the V.I.P passes. A V.I.P pass is… get this $1,119! That is for one person.

If you are a music lover Coachella still very well be worth it. That’s up to the individual person to decide.

Hey, it’s a free country. Even if you’re not going for the music if you want to spend $549 dollars to show off your outfits be my guest. If you think it’s worth it to upload on every single social media app you have then go nuts.

Don’t get me wrong Coachella still has the music worth going for. But is it worth it to go if you’re only going to go for an Instagram post?
