How I’m Making The Time To Do The Things that Truly Matters
Balancing my time writing, reading, and commenting on Medium
Call it what it is; your new routine, a place you come to read, write, inspire, or perfect your writing skills. Perhaps it’s your side hustle, full-time job, or a retirement pastime.
Whatever drives you to show up on Medium matters.
So it wasn't unusual; I felt compelled nearing the end of a hectic weekend to make time for Medium.
Three hours later, at 11:00 pm. I’d read and commented on 50 articles written mainly by new followers and subscribers.
Unfortunately, writing took a back seat last week.
It was time for bed and a long work week ahead.
Medium takes time.
Chances of writing during a busy work week are usually slim
But here I am today, writing during my lunch hour in the middle of a working day.
An article by Winston recently reminded me that we make time for the things that truly matter.
Reading, writing, interacting and supporting my online family matter to me.
But there’s no denying it,
Keeping up with Medium can be challenging.
A revengeful algorithm is a gruesome reminder when you lack consistency. Still, beyond that, you risk missing out on important news or a motivating story that could set the tone or mood for a brighter week or day ahead like some I’ve read by Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, a few mornings this week pepped my mindset.
But even with the best intentions, we sometimes lose track of time and often resort to catching up to ease the guilt of not being present.
Here's how I’m showing up this week on Medium.
I’m spreading the love by reading new subscribers. No one should feel left out.
It's impossible to read every article published by writers I subscribe to or follow. But I’m trying my best to make my close community a priority.
My goal is to read at least 20 articles per day and to publish a new article every 5–6 days.
It might sound not enough, but I’m being realistic. I’m a busy professional with tight schedules most days and even on weekends.
I’m putting it out there to be accountable to myself.
How about you?
How are you showing up and allocating your time to the things that matter to you?
Is there any workable advice for a busy professional?
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
