On Newsletters

How I Went From 0 to 81 Newsletter Subscribers in Only 3 Hours With This Simple Technique That Took 30 Minutes of my Time?

A simple marketing strategy that brings tangible results

Yesterday, I launched my first newsletter.

Today, I have 81 subscribers.

I achieved that by implementing one simple strategy that took 30 minutes of my time.

Let me show you how.

How I went from 0–81 subscribers in 3 hours?

I have posted a series of 8 simple stories on my personal Instagram account.

I currently have 834 followers. Around 400 saw my thread. 81 (20%) subscribed to my newsletter in the next 3 hours.

Here is how I did it.

I warmed up my audience with the first story.

The aim of this story was to inspire curiosity among my followers.

Many of them directly messaged me, wondering what was going on.

I put my readers in suspense. The question they were asking themselves was:

What the hell is this secret?

Momentum was created.

I made them wait for 45 minutes, and after that, I followed with the next three stories.

My followers expected an answer, and I gave them even more questions.

Now they were wondering:

What exactly is here?

Again, many of them messaged me directly. I did not reply.

I was building additional suspense by withholding key information.

After 30 minutes, I posted the following story.

This one received the most comments and likes.

It is a powerful image, and people knew that something big was coming.

Another question popped up in their minds:

We know this is something big, but wtf is Digital Dragon?

Still, I was not ready to give them the answer just yet.

I waited for another 45 minutes before answering.

I finally gave them the answer they were desperately waiting for (including the link to my landing page).

Subscribers started flowing in.

At this time, I also answered all direct messages. This led to a couple of additional subscribers.

But my work was not done.

I wanted to make one last push to remind the “indecisive ones” about this great opportunity.

I waited another 1 hour before posting my last post for the day.

This pushed some of my “not so sure” followers over the edge, and they finally subscribed.

I ended my day with 81 new subscribers to an entirely new newsletter.

Not bad for a 30 minutes worth of work :)

There is one last thing I need to do

I plan to wait 24 hours and follow up with my last post.

This post will serve as social proof that 81 people have already found the newsletter useful.

I expect it to bring me some additional followers.

I will report back on the outcome.

I built my newsletter on Beehiiv. I was considering different options, and Beehiiv seemed the most suitable one due to the following reasons:

  • Free for smaller accounts — Beehiiv is 100% free until you reach 2500 subscribers (and even after it’s much cheaper compared to ConvertKit)
  • Excellent tutorials — Step-by-step guides (email and video) that would help you launch your newsletter in no time
  • Advanced reporting capabilities — I love that it tracks channels that drive people to your landing page
  • New kids on the block — Beehiiv is an upcoming company fighting for its market share. I am an upcoming writer fighting for mine. Our goals seem to be aligned. I love that I am not just a number for them (at least it seems so after the first couple of days of testing).
