How I Was Able to 10x My Earnings in Under 2 Months
This isn’t one of those posts where I went from earning $0.10 to $1.00
In the past 2 months, my earnings have skyrocketed.
This didn’t happen on accident.
Sure, some luck was involved.
But there were a few things I consistently did that improved my writing.
The things I did
There were several things I did during this period.
I committed to writing. Every. Single. Day.
This was daunting at first and became quite uncomfortable. I worried that I’d run out of ideas. I worried that nobody would ever care. I worried that I’d fall flat on my face.
Through writing, I was able to eliminate these fears.
I understand that many people don’t have the time to write every day. That’s totally fine. You can still make great progress by committing to publishing your work consistently. That might be weekly or monthly. Figure out what you can commit to and then deliver your work.
I also focused on engaging authentically with other writers on Medium. Some people overlook the community on this platform. And that’s a mistake.
Every day, I check out other writers’ work. I also read the work of my loyal followers. I learned from other writers and enjoyed developing a better understanding of their experience.
Genuine curiosity helped me get to where I am.
My curiosity also led me to invest in learning other aspects of writing. I listened to podcasts, read books, took courses, and watched videos online.

During this period, I tried to focus on my headlines, hooks, writing structure, and images. As an online writer, there are so many dials that you get to turn. Each of these choices has an implication about your work. Don’t obsess over the little things to no end. But experiment with different things and see what works. Play around with it.
Lastly, I analyzed my data. I wasn’t just throwing my work out there and hoping it would land well. I published 2 stories each day. Then, I studied the data to figure out what my best pieces of work had in common.
As a writer, you have access to plenty of data. On Medium, there are claps, comments, follows, views, reads, and more. After sharing your work, check back in to see how it’s being received by your audience. If you are intensely curious, you could even try to throw your work into a CSV file and do some analysis.
I embraced my curiosity and analyzed some of my Medium data. You can check it out here if you’re curious:
To recap, these were the actions I took:
- Writing daily
- Engaging with other writers on Medium
- Learning different aspects of the craft
- Analyzing my data
The results

In December, I earned $25.75. In February, I earned $256.29. In less than 2 months, I was able to nearly 10x my earnings.
In mid-January, I started to write daily. This goes to show that big things can happen quickly if you are consistent with your work. Put your best stuff out there without hesitation! Over time, your level of “best” will continue to rise.
Please don’t be nitpicky and say that I missed the mark by $1.79. That missing couple of bucks still haunts me to this day.
That’s what I did to 10x my earnings. It wasn’t rocket science. The hardest part was actually sitting down every single day and writing for several hours.
Before I started writing, I envisioned myself basking in my freedom in a glamorous way. The more time I’ve put in, the more I’ve realized that it’s quite mundane.
I love writing. But it’s also a struggle. Most of the time, I’m just sitting and staring at a screen. Not as glamorous as I would’ve expected.
But it’s a blessing to be able to make money from my writing. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I’d call it a strange balance between boring and incredible.
Best of luck on your writing journey!
