How I Turned My Writing Into a Profitable Business (In Less Than 2 Hours Per Day)

Here is the roadmap I used for my success

A few years ago, I had no idea that I could be a successful online writer. I had only gained my first experience at the school newspaper and occasionally wrote articles for publications during my studies.

For a long time, I was unaware of the opportunities that the Internet offered for authors.

I had resigned myself to the idea that writing would forever remain just a hobby.Nevertheless, I didn’t want to give up.

After reading the book Atomic Habits 3 years ago, I resolved to get 1% better every day. This was not only for my personal development, but also to take my writing to a new level.

Over time, I learned how to make texts interesting for my readership, improved my writing style and gradually built up a loyal readership.

I also achieved the following milestones:

  • Building a personal brand
  • Founding my one-person business
  • Earning a four-figure monthly income as an author

Here’s a roadmap for you to achieve success similar to what I’ve experienced.

#1: Identify your uniqueness

Before you start writing an article. Always ask yourself:

  • What problems do I want to solve?
  • Who is my target audience?
  • How will I tackle their problems?
  • Why am I the right person for this job?

Thinking about these questions regularly creates clarity. Personally, I approach the challenge of starting and growing a one-person business alongside a full-time job as a consultant by using proven frameworks, templates and experience.

My unique perspective comes from having started a business and being a full-time business consultant and mom at the same time.

#2: Shape your uniqueness into a brand

I’ve made a six-figure income with my personal brand. Marketing yourself not only helps build long-term customer loyalty, but also leads others to identify with you.

My personal tip is to build a personal brand first and then a business.

Your personal uniqueness is a constant that can be reflected in your brand in the long run.

#3: Establish a sustainable strategy

For those managing a one-person business alongside a full-time job, time is limited.

My strategy in the early stages of my online writing career included the following:

  • Top of funnel (awareness): Medium, LinkedIn, Instagram (post 3–4x per week)
  • Middle of funnel (trust): Website, landing page (publish a weekly email newsletter)
  • Bottom of the funnel (sales): Etsy, online shop (product advertising only when appropriate and not in every article)

This approach allows me to balance my online business with a full-time job, even though it comes with challenges.

#4: Build discipline and perseverance

I am the biggest threat to my one-person business. To avoid burnout or setbacks, I rely on consistency. Many talented people fail because they are not consistent enough. Giving up or quitting is tantamount to failure.

If you are persistent, you can make continuous progress.

In moments of fatigue or setback, I remind myself that now is when it counts. This is the moment when most people give up. To be successful, you have to do what most don’t do to achieve something most can’t. To summarize

Get used to doing the work over a long period of time with limited immediate results. Success and wealth won’t come overnight, and they won’t just fall on you.

I set a time frame of 3 to 5 years for my goals to achieve remarkable results with a long-term approach. A personal brand is not a shortcut to wealth. It requires commitment for lasting success.
