How I started reading books.

One of my goals for 2018 was to develop the habit of reading and am glad I actually did achieve it. It wasn’t easy for me at first as I find it difficult to concentrate on reading for a long period of time. But then, I joined medium and started reading 2–3 minutes articles so as to help with my concentration. As time goes on and with improvement, I started reading 6–10 minutes articles. It wasn’t easy for me initially like I said but I was really happy as I was able to scale through it.

One of the medium writers who I really seem to connect with his writing or content is Gustavo razzetti, Although, there are some other medium writers that I really appreciate their work as well but it was Razzetti writings that connect to me the most. I always tried my best to read his work and it was through his writing I was able to achieve one of my 2018 goals.

His two books stretch your mind and stretch your team propelled my reading mentality and really changed my views on some things. And through his books, I have being able to read over 12 books this year. It wasn’t easy for me but I kept challenging myself as I have decided reading books is something I have always wanted to do.

Some of the books I have read this year include;

Stretch your mind — Gustavo Razzetti

Stretch your team — Gustavo Razzetti

Do it today — Darius Foroux (A medium writer as well.)

A man without a country — Kurt Vonnegut

A beautiful question — Warren Berger

The righteous mind (why good people are divided by politics and religion) — Jonathan Haidt

The imp of the mind — Lee Baer

Mindset (The New Psychology of Success) — Carol S. Dweck

The dip –Seth Godin

Linchpin (Are You Indispensable) — Seth Godin

The art of possibility — Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander

Essentialism (The Disciplined Pursuit of Less) — Greg Mckeown

The Art of being Unmistakeable — Srinivas Rao

The wisdom of insecurity (a message for an age of anxiety) — Alan Watts

One of the things that helped me that I was able to read all the books above is by setting my priorities right as I wrote in my last medium post that one of the core work of an essentialist is by getting your priorities right.

And through reading books now, I have being able to start writing on medium as it is a new phase I have also being planning to start for a while now. As they say “don’t be a consumer, be a creator”.

In all reading books has really opened my eyes on a lot of things and also change my perspective on a whole lot of things as well. Can't wait to see what 2019 has in store for me as I plan on reading an average of 50 books.
