How I Started My First Online Business: Skailex.com

Starting an online business isn’t just a step-by-step process; it’s a rollercoaster ride filled with exciting challenges and rewarding milestones. That’s precisely what my journey of creating my very first agency that helps businesses and individuals build their online presence was like. Here’s my story, and I hope it inspires and guides you in your digital ventures.
Step 1. Finding the Perfect Name: Skailex
Everything begins with a name, right? For me, it was all about finding something catchy yet meaningful. After brainstorming, I landed on “Skailex” — short for Scaling Experts. But hold your horses — a cool name means nothing if the domain and social media handles are taken.
Go to any domain registering platform like Namecheap or GoDady and check if it’s available (it actually took me over an hour to come up with the name that I like and which’s available, so be patient). Additionally, check social media — LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
At last success — skailex.com was available. Snagging that domain felt like winning a small lottery. Oh, and don’t forget the corporate email — I set up [email protected], which made everything feel super official.
Step 2. Diving into LinkedIn
Next up, LinkedIn. If you’re not networking, are you even trying? So, I created a group for Skailex (Check it out here). It was about building a space for the future community where I would connect with others, share insights, and let the world know what Skailex is all about. LinkedIn is like the watering hole for professionals, and I needed to be right there, making splashes.
Step 3. Upwork: Where Opportunities Meet Talent
Alright, a name and a LinkedIn presence — a good start. But where do you find work and clients? Enter Upwork. Registering Skailex as an agency was a game-changer. It’s like walking into a giant global marketplace where you can show off your skills and pick up projects. And let’s not forget the convenience of handling payments through Upwork. It’s like having a financial sidekick.
Step 4: Building the Skailex Website
Online business is only complete with its own digital home. So, the next big step was building the Skailex website. It was like putting together a digital puzzle, ensuring every piece — from design to content — is there and tells what Skailex is about.
I dived into choosing layouts, colors, and fonts and actually coding them. Seeing skailex.com go live was a proud moment — like watching a digital dream come to life.
Step 4. The Hunt for the First Clients
Finding the first client — that’s the goal for the next month to validate my business potential. This is where the real grind begins. It’s a mix of patience, persistence, and a bit of charm. I tapped into my LinkedIn network, pitched Skailex’s services on Upwork, and even contacted some old contacts. Let’s see where it will lead me.
The Journey Has Just Begun
