How I Ramp Up My Sixth Sense and Increase My Intuition

Maybe these tips will work for you, too

Do you believe in intuition? I do. I’ve no choice since it often pipes up in my life when it has something to say, and invariably, its wisdom is beneficial. Intuition is an innate power. Whether we refer to it as the higher self, gut feelings, or spirit, our sixth sense provides inner knowing that streams as wisdom to improve our well-being.

It can assist decision-making in all walks of life. Of course, there are times when it falls silent. We don’t hear it when we could use its advice. Sometimes, this is because the pace of everyday living cuts out the sound of sage-like intuitive guidance that would be helpful.

The following is my take on how strengthening your intuition can benefit you and how you can ramp up your sixth sense.

How Intuition Can Assist You

Help with decision-making

Have you ever felt that you should take a specific route or do something else and heed your inner voice? Many people who listen to their intuition are glad they have the foresight to do so.

I once had a strong foreboding when I was a kid and about to walk home one evening on my usual route. I listened to my gut and went the long way home.

In the morning, I discovered a girl (about my age at the time) had been attacked and raped just where I would have walked had I not taken my intuition seriously. However, it’s not always so easy to listen to that inner sense of knowing because it defies logic.

Perhaps you’ve occasionally stifled your intuition in favor of reason and paid the price. How many times have you wished you’d taken note of a nagging feeling about what you ought to do because it turned out to be right?

Your intuition is invaluable when it comes to those occasions when you must choose what to do fast. For example, a business associate may want to strike an unexpected deal with you. Or you could need to choose between several options at other times, and your sixth sense will help you make a favorable decision.

Unleash stored knowledge

Of course, you’re unaware of much of the information you’ve gathered over your lifetime; this is because you can’t consciously attend to it all at once as it’s too vast. Indeed, the human brain filters data so you can focus on just a few things simultaneously. Still, it retains other information in your subconscious just the same.

Your inner knowing may stem from the material from experiences stored in your brain. Such data wouldn’t be practical if it popped up without reason, so it arises when you can use it.

Your gut feelings show when you need guidance. You may face a dilemma or an unexpected setback, and your intuition kicks in and provides wisdom. Ideas seem to flash across the mind unpredictably. Still, they could be an accumulation of previously stored unconscious knowledge that is fully baked and ready to access.

Some people also believe intuition comes from the spirit world, the collective unconscious (a library of everything that’s ever happened), or is a product of ESP (extra sensory perception).

I once heard a loud voice in my ear shout, “Stop!” I was about to overtake a slow car on a little country lane in front of me. If I had carried out the intended maneuver, I wouldn’t be here now.

A large vehicle shot out of a side road unexpectedly. The driver hadn’t paused to check the way was clear and just missed colliding with the slow car in front of mine by inches. I believe I was being looked after by someone. Call them a guide, angel, or spirit. It doesn’t matter. They were there for me when I needed them.

Aid authenticity

Your intuition aids authenticity because it doesn’t concern itself with limiting ideas from society or your background. When you decide how best to behave in general, you consider the beliefs instilled by your upbringing, culture, and other non-personal sources.

Your sixth sense, however, isn’t subject to such burdens and is, in a way, your authentic self unleashed. Hence, it may fearlessly boost your creativity, provide out-of-the-box ideas, and suggest ways to tackle tasks you wouldn’t usually consider.

How to Strengthen Your Intuition

Reduce distractions

No matter what you do, you’ll have gut feelings and ah-ha moments. However, distractions like activity and noise in your environment can limit your ability to tap into your sixth sense and make the most of it. Your intuition may call you but not reach you.

To tap into your sixth sense, you could limit distractions at least once a day. Maybe stop using devices like your phone, computer, and television. Also, pick a quiet time when there’s little going on in your surroundings; then, there will be less noise and disruption from others’ activity.

You need not sit in silence unless you want to meditate or rest your body for a while. You could do slow, non-arduous jobs like shining your shoes or washing dishes.

Or, you could be creative and paint, play an instrument, or write a story. Then again, perhaps you’ll sip coffee in the garden, lay on the grass if it’s a nice day, or snuggle by the fire doing nothing.

Being less active and avoiding distractions will allow your mind to stop dealing with multitudes of data and leave space for your intuition to shine through.

Cut back self-talk

Self-talk is the inner narration that goes on in your head. Sometimes, it’s critical or tells negative stories. At others, it is encouraging, describes what happens around you, reminds you about the past, or considers the future. It has plenty to say and is rarely quiet.

Your sixth sense has difficulty communicating with you when your mind races. Therefore, you might like to practice quietening your mind and allowing space for your intuition. Mindful activities such as yoga, qigong, and meditation aid in slowing down thoughts, making it easier to note your intuition or gut feelings when they arise.

Breath awareness is a simple form of mindful meditation anyone can practice at any time. Notice everything about your breath as you breathe, like the sensation of air as it enters your nose and travels to your lungs. Pay attention to your belly rising and the movement of your shoulders and upper back as you inhale and exhale.

As a result, you’ll relax, reduce stress, and slow your body’s movements, giving your intuition the chance to speak.

Trust your intuition

People often try too hard to connect with their intuition. Straining won’t help, though. When you struggle to power up your sixth sense, the opposite of what you want happens. Your intuition works best when you relax, so straining creates tension that prevents you from accessing inner knowing.

Trust that your sixth sense is continually operating and will show itself when needed. Therefore, you need not constantly focus on it or work too hard to connect with it.

Ask for guidance

Although your intuition will only arise when it’s ready, you can still practice gently tapping into it. Your efforts will resonate with the subconscious and convey that you’re open to receiving guidance. Also, posing specific questions will tell your sixth sense what you want to focus on so it begins processing valuable data.

One way to connect with intuitive guidance is to meditate. If you want to speak directly to your spirit, you could name it. Pick a name that feels worthy of the wise part of you. It could be the name of a role model, a hero from a legend, or whatever else feels right to you.

First, relax and follow your breath. Next, ask your intuition to work on a particular problem or provide helpful insights to improve your life. Of course, answers may not flow immediately. Later, though, when you’re dreaming or engaged in tasks, solutions and wisdom could appear out of the blue.

Your sixth sense is available to you in times of need and may arise when you relax. You can’t force it to speak up, but you can clear the way for it to make itself known when it’s ready. Practice these suggestions often, and you’ll train your mind to hear your spirit’s sage-like advice.
