How I Prayed For Cancer This Morning

As well as other other illnesses

I prayed for several people this morning. I prayed for miracles.

I know several people fighting cancer.

One friend of mine was recently diagnosed with throat and brain cancer. He and his wife have five children so despite his dire condition he if forcing himself to work. However, he may start chemo and radiation soon, which will make this very hard for him.

His wife told me they have been trying alternative treatments and are having additional scans done to see how they’ve been working. The hope is that he will show enough improvement that he can avoid chemo and radiation, since these would destroy his ability to speak and eat solid food.

Another friend of mine is in the final stages of cancer. He’s been fighting hard but despite several visits to MD Anderson in Texas (he and his wife live in a different state so this has been expensive) his condition is now terminal.

Someone else has been having major digestive issues that became bad enough he had to be hospitalized. Despite running numerous tests, they couldn’t figure out what’s wrong.

For each of these people, as well as a few others, I prayed this morning. I also prayed for myself.

Matthew 9:20–22 says:

Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.

So when I prayed this morning, I prayed with confidence.

I told God that I knew He had already healed me, that I was cancer free, but that my cancer cells may not have caught on yet. But I believe that He has healed me.

I prayed for my friends that the Lord would give them belief in healing, that they would trust Him to heal them and that He would.

I felt an overhelming sense of peace as I prayed.

Of course, when you pray, God does not always answer “yes”. Otherwise, we’d have a lot more lottery winners, wouldn’t we? And we know that when two sports teams both pray, only one will win. However, praying for personal wealth or to win a competition doesn’t seem to be what Jesus is telling us to do.

When we ask Him for wisdom, for forgiveness, for peace — these are areas I feel He opens His arms wide for us.

When it comes to healing — sometimes He may say “no”. Yet we must still pray with faith and trust in His will for our lives. Ultimately it comes down to — do we believe He has our best interests at heart? I believe He does.

I am fighting stage IV cancer. If you can help with medical bills, I would really appreciate it. Or if you enjoy my writing and would like to buy me a cup of coffee, that’s great too. Maybe someday I can return the favor.
