How I Plan to Make Six Figures from Content In the Next Three Years
An ambitious, data-driven strategy that I think just might work.

My goal is to make six figures from content in the next three years.
I realize it’s an ambitious plan, but I totally think it might work. I base my confidence on my personal experience, trending data, and from a network of successful people that have already done what I’m trying to do.
How am I going to do it?
By diversifying my portfolio of websites, aging them past the Google sandbox, and flipping micro-niche sites for profit. This article will lay out my three-phase plan and hopefully give you a few tips on how to earn more as a content creator.
Here’s my six-figure plan.
Phase One: Diversify My Blog Portfolio
In my first phase, I will build my existing writing website to 50–70 optimized blog posts. I’m essentially almost there already.
Then, starting next month, I will launch two brand new sites from scratch:
- June to July — Start a new website in a totally different broad niche & write 30–50 articles on underserved topics.
- August to September — Start the third website in a third broad niche. Write 30–50 articles on underserved topics.
There are many benefits to diversifying your website portfolio. One of the more important reasons is that it can help you with SEO rankings and website traffic in case one of your websites gets penalized by Google. Unfortunately, this has happened to a lot of people who have been working online for years.
The more websites you manage, the more data available to analyze. You can significantly accelerate your blogging education.
You’ll also learn more about what content works best on each website. That way, you can optimize each site for its particular niche. You’ll also likely find that some of the lessons you learn from one website carry over to all of your websites.
On many hosting plans, you can launch up to 3 or more websites for no additional cost, so starting a few new websites is a financially frugal (and might I say, “wise’) decision.
Lastly, you can always sell the less profitable websites and use the profits to fund your most lucrative sites.
Phase 2: Age My Websites While Adding Content
The second phase of my plan is to age my websites past the Google sandbox. I’m going to do this by alternating between websites throughout the year.
What it means for a website to age: Aging is when the Google sandbox phase ends, which usually happens after 6–12 months for brand new content.
Google Sandbox: The Google sandbox is a term that means it takes a while for Google to crawl, index, and trust your content enough to rank it high in search results.
As I create a new website, I will add 30–50 optimized blog posts for underserved topics, and then let that website “age” for 4 months. As I wait for that website to age, I will start another website. Once I launch my two new sites (for a total of three big sites), I will return to my writing website and add additional content.
Next, I will alternate between all three of my websites to continuously update content and add new content. Eventually, I will outsource to a team of writers to help me with content production.
However, I will always write some of the content myself, since I really enjoy writing.
Adding new content will help my sites because Google will see that the site is updated frequently. Once my websites age, Googe will start to rank new posts more quickly. The result is generally more traffic and more money from display ads and affiliate sales.
Phase Three: Build and Flip Micro Niche Websites
My third and final phase is to build and flip micro niche websites.
I will build small websites, add 30–50 pieces of optimized content and let them age through the Google Sandbox. Once those websites start to earn money, I will flip them. Flipped websites usually sell for as much as 20 to 30 times their monthly earnings.
- If a website makes $50 per month, you could reasonably sell it for $1,000 to $1,500.
- If a website makes $500 per month, you could sell it for $10,000 to 15,000.
You can see that the earning potential scales up quickly. I will flip some of the websites for a smaller amount at first to learn the ins and outs of website flipping. There is definitely a learning curve.
Once I get a handle on flipping, I will age the micro-niche websites longer to hopefully make more money from flipping.
The income I get from flipping will be funneled into upgrading my main websites, paying content writers and editors, and launching new websites.
Follow the Money: A Trajectory of Earnings
Based on the income calculator tool exclusive to the Passive Income Geek Program (not an affiliate link), here is a trajectory of my earnings per website across time for display ads, affiliate sales, and flipped websites.
Note: I low-balled my figures for the calculator in case I don’t do as well as I hope.
It is very reasonable to expect that I may do better than the figures I’ve provided below — especially as I learn how to better optimize my sites.
Earnings from display ads
Part of my earning strategy is to place display ads like Google Adsense and Ezoic on each of my websites.
- 12 Months — $200 per website for a total of $600 per month or $7,200 per year.
- 24 Months — $1,400 per website for a total of $4,200 per month or $50,400 per year.
- 48 Months — $3,700 per website for a total of $11,100 per month or $122,100.
Earnings from affiliate offers
I also will be earning from affiliate offers, so here are my low-ball conservative estimate of earnings.
- 12 Months — $100 per website for a total of $300 per month or $3,600 per year.
- 24 Months — $300 per website for a total of $900 per month or $10,800 per year.
- 48 Months — $600 per website for a total of $1,800 per month or $21,600 per year.
Flipping Websites
Of course, I’ll also be building, aging, and flipping websites. This income will vary dramatically, but these are my initial projections.
- 12 Months — $1,000 for a flipped website making $50 per month.
- 24 Months — $10,000 for a flipped website making $500 per month.
- 48 Months — $30,000 for a flipped website making $1,500 per month.
Writing contracts
Finally, I’m currently earning between $2,000 and $4,000 per month with other writing contracts.
That gives me wiggle room in my earning projections.
If all goes well, I’ll continue these contracts through the entire three-year portfolio-building process (and perhaps beyond).
Total Income Earned (Projections)
Combining all of my planned income sources together gives me a healthy chance of making six figures within 3 years — and hopefully sooner.
The following are my optimistically realistic calculations from all income sources:
- 12 months — $35,800 total
- 24 months — $95,200 total
- 48 months — $197,700 total
Parting Thoughts
As you can see, I can massively fail on many fronts and still make six figures (or close to it) in the next three years. If all goes well, I will succeed beyond these figures, even with expenses for any outsourced content.
I’m hoping this article inspires you to create your own compelling vision and plan to make it happen.
Your future self is counting on you.
