How I Makeover My Life in 6 Steps

Restarting a Better Life Living with Covid19

Post-Covid19 pandemic, the new normal is anything but normal. The old normal has been badly disrupted … relationships, dreams, careers, ambitions and life plans. Gone, never to return. What emerges is Mr A.B. Normal, the harbinger of permanent change. Ironically, he has always been around but hidden in plain sight. No one notices, none cares about him, most ignored him and the rest simply did not bother.

2020 and 2021 are the Years of the Covid19 Generations. This is not the first pandemic since we actually co-exist with a million viruses and bacteria. Never in the modern history of man in the 20th and 21st century has a coronavirus infected so many millions of humans and resulting in the death of several thousand within less than 100 days. It also disrupted so many economies, significantly wiped out the wealth value of corporate stocks and rendered millions unemployed and quarantined them at home in order to slow its rapid infection pace. The Covid19 Generations share this common event with a sense of extinction-level expectancy, even though its mortality rate, mostly among the elderly, is only less than 1.0% among the infected, most of whom usually recovered after a brief hospitalization stay.

IT’S TIME TO MAKEOVER YOUR LIFE

The Covid19 Generations are fearful of and anxious for the future certainties of Covid20, Covid21 and so forth, which are impending in the next seasons of inevitable episodic events. By now, most would have received the promised vaccines developed at end-2020. Their long-term sustainability effect is likely nothing more than wishful thinking. Change happens. The future is not what will happen; the future is what is happening. With great uncertainty, the Covid19 coronavirus will mutate rapidly to manifest amidst our permanent turbulence in the coming years. And we shall merely be playing catchup with the coronavirus, like we are doing with the ever-present flu and common cold.

The Covid19 coronavirus has become a permanent feature of our daily life-style at work, play and living. Measures like temperature scanning, social distancing, virus testing, quarantine and shutdowns are likely to be automated and incorporated into new security systems. Human life at work, play and living has be transformed in ways unimaginable on a scale many times more disruptive than the 9–11 terrorist attacks or the 2009 swine flu.

Change is inevitable. Nothing is permanent except permanent change itself. The conventional wisdom is to race ahead of change and be ready for, say, Covid21, Covid22 and so on. This approach is both illogical and stupid. It is like waiting at the next or a few stations ahead in order to catch the next train, even though one knows (unconsciously, perhaps) that the train is in perpetual and increasing motion! The only solution to catch and board a train in perpetual motion is to match its speed like the Red Queen in “Alice in Wonderland” who has to “keep running fast just to stand still”. This is also consistent with Einstein’s postulations in his theory of relativity.

Making Over your life is the only way to embrace the natural change forces and stay on top of any “unexpected” events. Remember that the future is not what will happen; the future is what is happening already.

HOW I MAKEOVER MY LIFE IN 6 STEPS

1. Map my Existing Life Canvas.

Do an inventory of all of my past; my life’s struggles, lessons, joys, blessings, pain, habits, hobbies, friends, enemies, loved ones, possessions … everything that has made me so far.

2. Do 4 Things Now: Reduce-Keep-Enhance-Discard.

Identify that which no longer work for me, serve no purpose and drag me down. Burn them. As each item is discarded and burnt away in written form, psychologically and physically, so it does in me. It’s gone. Done. Over. Let them not be my drags, but instead only a passing irritation that disturb the fire of my passions. Keep the essential, meaningful and important; even enhance them. Reduce those that are unnecessarily necessary, tolerate them but reduce my preoccupation with them.

3. Create my New Life Canvas.

Keep and prioritise the important. Add new stuff from a renewed mindset emboldened by fresh values and life purpose. Do a thorough spring cleaning of my life. Meditate as I go through my things and thoughts, remember that one does not change because it is good to change; I can only want to change the things which no longer work for or in my life. Be daring in my thinking, bold in my decisions and courageous in my actions. My new Life Canvas immediately reduces my psychological, physical and geo-spatial loads. At this point, I experience a lightness in my being, signaling that transformational change has begun!

4. Be Thankful.

I express sincere appreciation for my life, my gratitude to everything in the universe, give thanks to whoever and whatever Divine Creator for all it has provided me thus far. I restore the natural goodness in my spirit and action. Develop mindfulness. Meditate on my fresh values. Visualising my life as I always desire it to be. Reaching out to feel and see, touch, taste, smell it. I thus create the mental anchor of my future as the perpetual beacon to guide my metaphysical self.

5. Write my Life Statement — who do I want my new Life to be now?

Declare who and what I want to impact henceforth. Define my main goals and purpose. I share them with loved ones, friends and people. Write them down. I own them. Be bold and unapologetic. Do not hold back or be humble. The Statement is mine and mine alone.

6. Reach beyond my Grasp for the Life that has been waiting for me.

Taking positive action right now. I create a personal logo, a word, a symbol, and a mantra that will forever remind me repeatedly of this moment. I know that I will surely fail many times, but it’s more important that I get up more times than I fell. That’s how I will live the life that has been waiting for me.

At this point, I am ready to restart my unique personal Path or Way. Daily, I move forward deliberately and intentionally with an open heart and open hands. Always compassionate, always ready for the permanent change forces and always active. Never regret. Responding accordingly always with wisdom.
