How I Make $1,400 Per Month With Display Ads
Small website changes you can make in less than 24 hours.

If you show ads on your website, then you want to optimize them to make the most money possible (without hurting the user experience).
Since I’ve run ads on multiple sites for close to a year, I thought I would share a few easy ways to increase your earnings. These changes come down to the type of ad and placement of ads.
If you get this right, you could realistically boost your monthly ad revenue by up to 30%.
Note: The advice in this article applies to most ad companies, but my experience is largely with the Ezoic ad network.
Floating Sticky Ads
One of the best types of ads is called “sticky ads” or “floating sticky ads.” These ads “stick” to the page or “float” on the page as the user reads your article.
Now, a great insight about ads is that the longer the user stays on your page, the more money you make.
That’s because the ads refresh every 30 seconds or so.
Each time the ads refresh, you get paid. Pretty cool. Therefore, you want users to engage with your content as much and as long as possible.
Most normal ads sit statically on the page.
Once the user scrolls past them, you don’t earn any more money from them. Not so with floating sticky ads. Since they follow the user down the page, you get paid every time they refresh.
The Takeaway: Make sure that you allow floating sticky ads.
Video Ads
To take your ad earnings to the next level, don’t overlook video ads.
You will spend a bit of time making, editing, and uploading the videos, but then they will earn you money forever.
You want to make a playlist of five to seven 30–40 second videos that you think will interest the largest group of users that visit your site.
You can easily add videos to every single article with the touch of a few buttons.
I recorded videos using free OBS software and Canva, edited my videos with free video editing software built into my Windows computer, and then uploaded them to Ezoic.
The entire process took less than a day.
Takeaway: Create video ads for your website.
Top of Page Ads
Generally speaking, the more ads you toss on your site, the more money you will make.
The highest garnering ad placements almost always exist at the top of your blog post. Why? Because most people never get to the bottom.
Stick ads and video ads (you can make sticky video ads, by the way) also make bank.
But make sure that you place ads at the top of your article and at the top of your sidebar (if you use a sidebar). I suggest you use sidebars but keep them mostly free of content so there is more room for ads.
Takeaway: Place ads at the top of your articles.
Bonus Tips To Make More Money With Display Ads
“Making money is a hobby that will complement any other hobbies you have, beautifully.” — Scott Alexender
You can make even more money with display ads in a few smart ways. I suggest that you consider each way very closely.
Here are the ways:
- Add more content to your website. Each article is a mini money machine cranking out more revenue every time someone visits your page.
- Place more ads higher up in the article.
- Allow in-image ads. Essentially, advertisers show ads in a part of the images you put in your article.
- Build additional websites. I currently run a portfolio of four websites by myself. One I plan to sell off in a year or two, however, the more websites you own, the more money you can make.
- Focus on low competition keywords in low competition niches. If your article is the only source of information on a topic, users must come to you and other sites must backlink to you.
- At the end of the year (November & December) switch the advertising setting on your ad network account to “highest earning” mode.
Final Thoughts
I'm constantly learning more about earnings from ads. There is no doubt in my mind that I can increase my current income.
So can you.
