How I Make $1,000+ Every Month By Writing Online
My complete system for making over $1k every month

I follow a simple (but not easy) strategy to consistently make $1,000 per month writing online.
Unlike many other articles, I’m not going to tell you that you can do it.
Not everyone has the tenacity, patience, or skill set to follow this system. I’m also not going to make you wait until the end of this article for the full program.
Here is it:
- Write 1–2 articles every day.
- Write articles about sex, true crime, writing, and relationships.
- Write 5–7 minute articles (approximately between 800 to 1,300 words).
- Write a good headline based on a successful template.
- Include a custom & relevant image at the top of every article.
- Track your best-performing tags. Add the maximum number of your top-performing tags to each article. Make sure they are relevant.
- Include an affiliate disclaimer and link at the bottom of every article.
- Track your best-performing platforms and publications. Always publish with your top-performers.
- Respond to 99% of your comments.
- Study your best-performing articles and write more on the same or similar topics.
- Make your articles as original and interesting as possible.
There’s nothing inherently magic about this system. If you follow it over and over again each month, you will build your revenue up to $1,000 (or more) per month.
The more articles you write each month, the faster you will reach the 1k mark. It took me three months.
You might get there faster or slower.
The rest of this article will go over some specific tips for each step (with some examples and screenshots). I hope you find them helpful.
Write 1–2 Articles Every Day
This is the most important step.
Consistently writing and publishing content is what ultimately separates those who make money writing online and those who don’t.
There is, however, one caveat.
You must know how to write a decent article. You must have a basic grasp of English spelling and grammar.
You don’t need the literary dexterity of Shakespeare — or even Stephen King — but articles riddled with errors and unintelligible sentences won’t do.
Focus on these areas:
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Format
- Meeting the guidelines of the platform
Read your work out loud, use editing software like Grammarly, but make sure your writing meets the minimum standard.
Write Articles About Sex, True Crime, Writing, and Relationships
Your topics might be different, but these are the topics I write about the most. My highest earning months center on these subjects.
My top-performing articles focus on relationships and sex.
This is because it’s the area where I have a lot of knowledge and passion. It’s also a niche with a huge audience.
Find those topics for yourself:
- Study Google analytics
- Study your stats on other writing platforms
- Study your stats compiled by your ad platform (such as Ezoic)
Write 5–7 Minute Articles
Writing mid-length articles to make more money is no big secret.
You can find plenty of other articles (and videos) that say the same thing. An article this long does a few things for you:
- On almost every online platform, the longer someone stays on your article, the more money you make.
- If you make display ad earnings, you’ll earn more money.
- It usually takes approximately this long to write a meaty article.
- An article this long can deter competitors from trying to beat you in search results.
Write a Good Headline Based on a Successful Template
Everyone says this because it’s good advice.
I won’t belabor the point. Just make sure you use a good template that makes people want to click on your article.
I study popular articles and reverse-engineer titles that grab me.
Here are some successful templates I use:
- X ways to [Verb]
- X things you didn’t know about [Noun]
- X [Adjective] [Nouns]
I’m always on the lookout for a good title. Here’s a list of 24 headline templates from popular writers.
Include a Custom & Relevant Image at the Top of Every Article
I usually use a picture I made in Canva (includes text, colors, shapes, etc). You can use the free version.
Here is a screenshot from my personal Canva account:

The great thing about Canva is that you can completely customize the images to fit your article.
Track & Use Your Best-Performing Tags
Almost every platform uses some version of “tags.”
Track which ones get your content the most exposure and make you the most money. If you’re savvy with spreadsheets, you can do this with Excel.
For me, the following tags make me the most money:
- Sex
- Sexuality
- Love
- Relationships
- Dating
Include an Affiliate Disclaimer and Link at the Bottom of Every Article
I’ve started doing this more recently with most of my articles on multiple platforms, such as my websites.
By adding this one simple step to my strategy, I’ve made somewhere between $30–300 extra per month. It doesn’t take much effort for a nice ROI.
You can look at the bottom of this article for an example.
Always Publish With Your Top-Performing Platforms & Publications
Track where your articles make the most money and publish most (or all) of your articles there.
I find that I make the most money on my websites, and in smaller niche publications. For example, on Medium, I publish true crime in the Chameleon.
When you look at your stats, you may find something different.
Respond to 99% of Your Comments
I honestly have no idea if this makes any real difference. But, it’s something I do regularly on multiple platforms.
I like interacting with anyone who reads my articles or watches my videos on YouTube. Call it reader engagement, good karma, or anything else.
It seems like a good approach.
Study Your Best-Performing Articles and Write More of the Same
This is another straightforward strategy that works wonders for me. On most platforms, you can easily see which topics make you the most money and get the most engagement.
Once you spot your money-makers, double down on that line of content.
In general, the more content you create on a subject, the more money you’ll make from that subject. By regularly producing articles and videos, you maximize your time and income.
Sometimes, as writers, we write what we want or what we think we should write.
I do some of that, too, but I lean heavily on topics that earn me the most money. If you want to make more money long-term, I suggest that you take this approach.
Make Your Articles as Original and Interesting as Possible
Then there is this step.
I saved it for last because it’s probably the hardest part of my system. It’s difficult to convey in an article (and probably any other medium).
By “original” I mean:
- New information
- Unique words, stories, and perspectives
- Nothing simple
- Nothing obvious
- First-hand experience (or close to it)
Defining “interesting” is just as complicated. Everything should hook the reader — your title, subheadings, transitions, stories, images, everything.
The two irrefutable rules of making money writing online is:
- To be helpful
- To not be boring
Final Thoughts
I almost didn’t write this article because part of me believes it is all very obvious. A little too obvious.
But I didn’t have this system worked out even 12 months ago.
It’s an approach that I’ve developed over time. An approach that works well for me every month. Maybe it will work for you, too.
