How I Made $350 From a Single Article
After 6 Months of Algorithm Research, I Leave a Handbook for You
Before I started writing on this platform, I never thought that I would earn 350$ from an article.
Some might call it sans but this isn’t my first viral post.
No one can change the fact that the medium has a certain algorithm. Trying to understand this is what we all want.
I wrote this article by blending almost all the articles I read on the platform. And the result was incredible, as you can see.
At first, an author whose name I can’t remember said to use the word “you” in your titles. It made so much sense to me at first. Why not come? Most of the articles I read were titles that appealed to me.
In this way, I started to write a few articles, but I could not get the results I wanted. I did more than a few tries, you can check my profile. I published almost 25 posts and none of them were getting the results I wanted. As a result, while we were waiting for it to be read in proportion to the number of followers, it did not happen at all.
But do you think I will stop?
Never.
Then I thought of using something that I use a lot in my daily life.

These three items above are very simple but effective words that will really transform your life.
So What Was This Thing I Did?
I immediately reviewed the most successful stories in my field. There are a lot of viral posts but if you dig a little deeper you will find some patterns. In the end, the word I discovered was an incredibly effective word.

Well, I thought about what would happen if I blended this with other information I learned.
I started by adding the word You, I used this word as much as possible in the paragraphs. Then I researched the style of Jessica Wildfire's articles, which I found very successful. I tried to learn from her.

Medium rewards you when you change your writing style and really start to engage readers. This post was “distributed” shortly after. I believe there is a great measure in that.
But let me tell you something funny
Even when my post went viral, it still made good money. Maybe there were times when it earned $1 for 1 or 2 views.
So What Can You Do to Make Your Writing More Successful?
Social Relations
There are many authors on the platform. If you want your articles to be read and not read any articles, I think you will not be very successful on this platform. At least that’s the case for us newbies.
In the research I have done, everyone says that they have met writers close to them. In this case, if you read their articles and leave nice comments, you will see that they start to do the same to you.
Please do not comment on the articles you have not read, this is unbelievably obvious. But as soon as I see people who actually read my articles and share their good thoughts, I add them to my list. I’ve been reading and commenting on their articles. First of all, we have to establish our own environment on this platform.
Don’t Underestimate the Mail List
The strongest event is on this platform. We need to expand our mailing list. My mailing list has seen a serious increase in this last period and my articles get 40–70 views when they are shared.

Using additional tools is important. None of us are masters of literature, so we need some support. At the same time, it is a fact that people want to read your article longer, as the format of the article has improved.
The Length of Our Posts
Medium has short, medium, and long posts. I think these are 1–3 min, 4–7 min, and 7–15 min articles. But I have seen such titles in many authors that I have come across. “I made $5 on 5000 reads” etc. When you write short articles, even if your article goes viral, the reading time will be very short.
That’s not how Medium works though.
Every article and content writing is a very valuable effort in my opinion, but extending your article for 400 more words will affect your earnings very seriously. I earned a high income from my articles with an average reading time of more than 4 minutes, and one of these articles became semi-viral.
There is a publication written by the staff of Medium.
I would recommend looking at DataLabs. The person who works there shared an article and says “The 6–7 minute articles in the medium are the ones that bring the most returns”. Imagine, this is the statistical result of all the data in their hands in artificial intelligence. I think this is very solid data. That’s why a nice introductory sentence and a concluding paragraph that we will add to our articles will bring us more returns than we think.
Be Constant
First of all, I am not a professional writer. I have been writing for years, but it would be unfair to say that I am a professional. You already realize this while reading. But this is “Medium”, we share our thoughts here, we don’t need to produce literary masterpieces. This brings us to our first topic.
“Write what you feel, write without fear of comments, without thinking about good or bad”
There is one thing this platform wants, to produce content for the platform. I never think that an income will be obtained by writing 1–2 articles a month here. What we write does not need to be very good, just write different information that you can attract the attention of the readers. I even enjoy reading texts written in conversational language.
The only thing that brings success in any business is continuity.
Producing content every day means both a very serious writing library behind and new followers and interactions every day. Look, this is not a hobby place. If we want to make money here, we have to put in a serious effort here. Let’s do our job like a job. Let’s make a lot more effort for ourselves while we spend hours and hours in the office for our stupid bosses and doing our job seriously.
