How I made $100 from one Medium Story?
Pour your heart out in every story!
It is a KABOOM moment for me right now. The day I started writing on Medium, I never imagined I would achieve this feat. It might be a small thing for many bloggers and Medium writers, but it isn’t for me.
When I joined Medium Partner Program, I never even aimed to hit $100 mark in a month. I never gave it a thought that I could manage to hit $100 with all my articles in a month.
At first, $2 a day was a treat for me!
But, since I have written ‘Why every Pythonista must-read Automate the Boring Stuff With Python,’ I have witnessed the power and influence of Medium. Across Medium, writers are sharing stories of their experiences. Hence, readers get to gain a lot from those writings.
Medium Payouts
Medium pays its writers based on member engagement. In May 2020, Medium directed significant payout stats.
- 60.7% of writers or publications who wrote at least one story for members earned money.
- 5.4% of active writers earned over $100.
- $35,379.72 was the most earned by a writer, and $6,844.29 was the most earned for a single story.
I never intended to fit in the 5.4% of active writers who earned over $100. I just wanted to write what I feel. I just wanted to share what I know. I just wanted to share my experiences. I wanted people to grasp information and facts from my writings.
When I wrote the article, Why every Pythonista must-read Automate the boring stuff with Python, my only motive was to guide Python beginners. Students tend to go haywire while studying Python. They will enroll in courses, will do certifications, and watch YouTube videos. But, there is no better resource to learn than a book. That is what I wanted to express!
As a result, readers loved my story. I got thousands of views, hundreds of claps, hours of reading time, and above all, a century of dollars.

A Writer’s POV
If you are out there writing at Medium, do not burn out yet. You will surely make a cut and a big one. Yes, writing is hard, expressing, and jotting your ideas is hard at times. It is fulfilling!
So, do not drop your pen yet. Think of something beautiful, jot it down, write an engaging story for your audience, and publish it in a publication. Eventually, your article will take you way up the Medium food chain.
Peace!
