Summary

The author describes a personal routine involving exercise, meditation, cold showers, and walking to increase morning dopamine levels.

Abstract

The article titled "How I Increased My Dopamine Level in the Morning" details the author's journey to improve their mood and productivity through natural dopamine boosts. The routine begins with 15 minutes of light weight training for various muscle groups, followed by a 10-minute guided meditation session to relax the body and mind. The author then takes a cold shower, which they claim significantly increases their dopamine levels by stimulating the metabolism and raising the pulse. Additionally, the author has incorporated a 15-minute walk to the subway instead of driving, which also contributes to higher dopamine levels, especially when combined with exposure to morning sunlight. The author contrasts this new routine with their previous habits of just having coffee and driving to work, which did not positively affect their mood.

How I Increased My Dopamine Level in the Morning

As many of you know dopamine is the hormone of happiness, it is the one that helps you to have a good mood, to be relaxed and productive. However for me in the morning my dopamine level was extremely low until I managed to do some research and find some ways to increase it.

First thing after waking up I do some simple exercises for about 15 minutes. Using some dumbbells up to 5kg I do about 4 sets x 20 reps for biceps, triceps and chest. This helps me to have a better mood both in the morning and throughout the day.

Then 10 minutes I meditate to relax my body after the exercise and to prepare it for the next morning routine to increase my dopamine levels. For meditation I use guided meditation videos that you can easily find on Youtube.

Afterwards depending on the weather outside I take a cold shower. This increases the pulse level just as the body is trying to reach the optimal temperature. This also helps in terms of metabolism which is improved. From my point of view the cold shower helps me the most to increase dopamine levels.

Then one thing I have changed in my life is that I no longer drive to work. I choose to walk about 15 minutes to the subway which is also good for increasing dopamine levels.

If I also manage to catch a few rays of sunshine before I get to work then my dopamine levels are extremely high.

As you can see these are not great things, but neither am I and neither are you. Up until a few months ago after waking up, making a coffee and getting in the car to work and my mood was not great.

If you like I will also prepare an article of the things I do to increase my dopamine levels in the evening when I get home from your place.
