How I Healed 7 Years Chronic Pain

Our beliefs hold us back.

It was a scary ordeal.

I had since stopped taking pharmaceutical drugs, even the innocent ones.

I was just about to take the sixth pain killer, which was prescribed to me by a Portuguese doctor when my intuition said,

“Put it down Helen, do you even know what you are taking?”.

At that time I had already developed ulcers in my mouth, inflamed gums, fever, heart palpitations, and I felt depressed to the point of questioning my purpose for living.

After realizing that I was in danger of having agranulocytosis, a rare condition that could result in death, I decided to practice what I preach and take back the power I so willingly gave away.

Over 30 countries, including Canada, the United States, and England where Dipyrone, also going by the name Metamizole is banned,

“demonstrate that this medicine is not only unnecessary but potentially harmful to health.

Physicians who choose to continue using it as an analgesic should inform their patients about its harmful effects, including its complications and risk of death.” — Oscar Gilberte Gómez-Duarte from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, The State University of New York

It is worthy to note that I got a 30-day supply of this medication. The doctor told me to take it every six hours and the pharmacist advised that I should rather take it every four hours otherwise it would not have the desired effect.

Little did I know.

The onset

I had been doing more physical exercise than usual and moved around some heavy plant pots when a once numbing pain inflamed into one of extreme agony.

I believe it was just a trapped nerve, yet as I have been in the habit of cracking my neck and bending my arms and back into all directions, I honestly had no clue what was going on, as the aforementioned trusty methods brought no relief.

All I knew, was that I was in so much pain that I struggled to breathe and after a couple of days of heavy dosages of Ibuprofen, I realized an intervention was needed.

A friend told me to go to the doctor and I decided it was time.

Mistake 1: I Kept telling the old story

The story went like this —

Many years ago I picked up a heavy fender on a yacht and hurt my neck and shoulder. I neglected to have it checked out by a physiotherapist at the time of the injury.

I kept doing exercise.

I kept picking up heaving things.

I traveled all over Europe with this pain and thought nothing of it because I kept telling this story and it appealed to my logic.

I made sure I had Ibuprofen with me at all times, just in case I had a bad day. I most definitely did not allow the pain to inhibit my busy schedule.

Sometimes I got a heavy painkiller off a friend, which was pretty much how I managed the pain.

As I spent a lot of time in front of my Mac, I usually had three to four good days at the start of the week before I started taking more breaks.

If it got really bad, I had a glass or two of wine in the evening.

The worst part was that in retrospect it did affect my productivity after all.

Mistake 2: I Did Not Practice What I Preach

I am a DNA Upgrade Specialist.

I remove mental blocks in 15 minutes.

I understand how powerful our bodies are and how we transcend limitations.

I welcomed the wake-up call as it is quite common for healers, counselors, and medical professionals to neglect parts of their healing whilst focusing on helping others.

We never stop learning and we should not be put on a pedestal.

“But where and how is the poor wretch to acquire the ideal qualification which he will need in this profession? The answer is in an analysis of himself, with which his preparation for his future activity begins” —Sigmund Freud

Mistake 3: I Went Against My Core Beliefs

I don’t have medical insurance.

I never go to doctors, unless I cut my finger to the bone [true story], yet I allowed a friend of mine to talk me into visiting the hospital when my pain suddenly escalated to the point where I could barely move my neck.

Speaking my best Portuguese, I explained to the doctor what the problem was.

I was hoping to get an x-ray done, yet without even touching me or taking the time to listen to my concerns, the doctor on shift, prescribed two kinds of tablets and like a sheep, I went to the pharmacy and purchased it.

I thought, good on you for doing something about the situation, yet in the back of my mind, firmly in place, was the powerful belief that doctors only treat symptoms and not cause.

Come-back 1: I Listened to My Intuition

Scientists Galang Lufityanto, Chris Donkin, and Joel Pearson from the University of New South Wales published interesting research on the subject of intuition in Psychological Science.

These data suggest that we can use unconscious information in our body or brain to help guide us through life, to enable better decisions, faster decisions, and be more confident in the decisions we make, Pearson remarks.

When I had that sixth red pill in my hand and my intuition said “STOP!”, it was like someone hit me with a pan over the head.

I am an Intuitive.

When the voice speaks I listen.

I put that pill down and looked up the medication online.

I came across this shocking article. In 2018, people had died of this medication and my symptoms all pointed to having agranulocytosis, a rare condition that could result in death.

Of course, I freaked out at first and then realized the only way out was to take back my power.

I was most definitely not returning to a doctor.

Come-back 2: A Farmer Makes A Plan

In South Africa, where I was born and raised, we have an Afrikaans saying,

‘n Boer maak ‘n plan — a farmer makes a plan.

It simply means that you can always find a solution to a problem, no matter the circumstances.

I thus decided to stop all medication and revert to my natural bio-hacks in conjunction with taking as much rest as I felt necessary.

I cleansed my body through intermittent fasting and now three weeks later, I have no chronic pain.

It is interesting because every time I have a stiff muscle I need to stop the thought habit of telling the story.

So far so good.

Focusing on good health takes daily commitment and practice.

Come-back 3: I Stopped believing the story

It starts with the decision to change.

It was time to let go of the story I had been telling myself for seven years. It did not serve me and I would never have been able to heal if I kept telling that story.

Come-back 4: I found the root cause

There was a story behind the story.

Along with letting the story of the injury go, I had to dive deeper and find the underlying cause, as the story was a mere cover-up. This was my process:

I traced back the events to the time of the injury and found the emotional connection to the pain.

I acknowledged the triggering events and feelings and made a firm decision to change.

I explored the mental block during a DNA-Upgrade session.

I explored the connected fear during meditation.

I removed the mental block.

I started telling a different story.

I introduced new healthier physical and thought habits to replace the old. I have since taken up yoga again which I practice every morning.

Heal Yourself 101

My key takeaways were:

❂ All physical ailments are connected to a limiting root belief.

❂ Trace down the root belief and remove the mental block.

❂ Nothing is set in stone. Healing can happen instantaneously.

❂ Identifying and accepting where we went wrong sets healing in motion.

❂ Don’t be a fool like me and just take anything a doctor subscribes. If you fear going off your medication then at least do thorough research to know what you are putting into your body.

❂ The placebo effect works both ways.

❂ It is never done — always remain open-minded and skeptical at the same time.

After seven years of living with chronic pain, I managed to resolve the underlying issue in only three weeks.

I hope this inspires you to take back your power, be mindful of what you put into your body and live a healthy and happy life, knowing that it is never too late to learn something new.

Thanks for reading, appreciate you taking the time!
