How I Grew My Medium Account From 0 to 2000 Followers in 100 Days
Hey there! I just want to share tips that helped me gain over 2,000 followers, high visibility, and high engagement levels on Medium.
I believe all writers desire growth and improvement, regardless of their niche.
Therefore, I feel compelled to share some tips that may help you grow faster.

So, how did I gain 2,000 followers in just 100 days? The answer is simple! I chose a niche that I am passionate and knowledgeable about.
Before diving into the details, let me take a moment to explain my journey.
Since this is a new niche and I’m addressing a new audience, let me briefly share my journey with you so we can comfortably interact in the comment section. Now, let’s get started!
My Journey
I write mainly about cryptocurrency, a niche that often receives criticism. Despite this, I have established myself in this competitive field in just 100 days, gaining over 2,000 followers and over 15,000 views monthly.
Achieving this goal required commitment, passion, and dedication.
While I’m not eager to brag about my success, sometimes it’s necessary to show off your achievements to inspire others.
Here are some things that contributed to my growth. I believe they might help you as well.

How to Grow on Medium
Choose a niche where you have both knowledge and passion: Choosing a niche where you have a blend of knowledge and passion will help put your heart and soul into your writing, even when you are not getting the desired attention.
When passion and knowledge meet, success is inevitable.
Choosing a specific niche may seem controversial, but it will help you build a loyal readership. Most successful writers on Medium have a particular niche they focus on, and their readers follow them for that reason.
For example, I share helpful tips about cryptocurrency trading and investing, which is why most of my followers read my content. Similarly, Hazel Paradise and Paul Rose share tips on selling Canva templates and ebooks, while Eve Arnold writes about a specific topic.
So, be consistent and stick to one niche instead of jumping from one trending topic to another. By doing so, you will attract a loyal readership who will keep coming back for more. My stats grow every day because my readers come back for more.

Keep your writing style simple and unique: Write in a conversational tone and avoid using complex words that may require readers to use a dictionary. The world is already a difficult place to live in, so don’t add to our problems.
Write for The People: When writing on Medium, remember that many people around the world don’t speak English as their first language, and they make up a large audience size on Medium. To win these readers, ensure to communicate in an easy-to-understand format.
Unless you are writing a literature review or academic thesis, most people won’t care about your grammar. Just focus on writing in a way that’s easy for everyone to understand, and they’ll appreciate you.
Create Scarcity and Urgency: Creating scarcity and urgency is an effective way to make people place a higher value on things, even if they are ordinary. — This is why I stopped publishing new articles every day.

While publishing new stories daily may grow your confidence as a writer, it doesn’t necessarily increase engagement. In my experience, I have found that readers engage more with authors who publish two to three articles per week rather than those who post daily.
By limiting the number of articles I publish weekly, I have been able to create a sense of scarcity that has captured the attention of my readers. Although I don’t publish new stories every day, I write daily by responding to comments. Also, I read and comment on other writers’ stories to keep engagement levels high.
I learned this strategy from Hudson Rennie in November 2023, which has helped me achieve amazing results. Despite publishing only 2–3 articles per week, I have seen significant growth in my audience numbers. You can implement this strategy as well.
Read More and Write Less: If we are honest, we will agree that it’s difficult to earn a comment on Medium even if you write a masterpiece. The reason for this is simple — when people realize that you need their validation to earn a living, they won’t give it to you freely. Hence, you need to work extremely hard to earn it, and that’s what the Medium platform represents (more engagement = more earnings).
Most times, people would only comment on your stories if you addressed them directly, or you expressed a contrary view to what is generally accepted as true. On the Medium platform, we compete against one another because almost everyone on Medium is a writer or an aspiring one. Instead of competing, we can complement one another to achieve great results.
To do that, read stories from other writers and drop relevant comments. If someone claps or drops a relevant comment on your article, be kind enough to do the same if they have stories on their timelines.
My account gained visibility when I implemented this strategy.
To this day, I read other people’s stories and drop comments if they DESERVE it. Also, I reply to every relevant comment on my story, then visit the author’s page and drop a comment on their articles if they have any — mutual respect.
In case you don’t know, Carl Jeffers responds to almost everyone who drops comments on his stories, and his account grew exponentially. So, why not engage with other writers?
If you have no comments on your story, start the conversation and ask others to express their opinion about your story.
This is the easiest way to start a conversation. Most people won’t comment on your story if they are the first to do so. Now, check your recently published stories, implement this strategy, and write a comment on them.
Join Publications: Submitting articles to publications that are relevant to your niche can give you much-desired exposure. I regularly submit all my articles to various publications that have accepted my request, and it has been a game-changer for me. So, I suggest you apply to the ones that suit your niche.
Avoid Publishing AI-Generated Articles: Medium is a platform for writers who value intellectual discussions. Most readers on this platform possess excellent writing skills, and they can easily spot any AI-generated content and skip it. Hence, your articles won’t gain traction if you’re in this category.
I have seen some writers publish 3–4 AI-generated articles daily, expecting increased engagement. Unfortunately, no one gives them attention.
What’s the point of publishing so many articles if no one reads them?
So, calm down and focus on quality rather than quantity.
I am not a prolific writer. Sometimes, I spend one to two days writing, editing, and proofreading before publishing a story. I spent a whole day writing this article — gathering data, adding more points, and expanding my thoughts.
However, people will not see the effort you put into writing, but will only see the results.
Luckily, my audience appreciates my efforts, and they keep returning to read more. So, focus on creating quality content that will resonate with your audience.
Use AI as an Assistant Tool to Improve Your Story: Although I write my stories, sometimes I use AI to improve and edit them. You can also use AI as an editor to synchronize your story and remove unnecessary words.
Grammarly AI and Bing (Copilot) are perfect for performing this function for free. I also use AI for title suggestions, so I can have a variety of titles to choose from until I find one that resonates with me.
