I Completed One Month In Medium and Managed To Get 3000 Views And 12 Dollars

1 Month, 70 Articles, 3000 Views, 3 Curations, and 12 Dollars

The main image is that of a person who is enjoying his success because I consider this humble beginning a success. It is not great, but it is good enough, considering I found time to write in between a full-time job. I started something new, and I was being consistent about it.

I wrote at least one article every day for the last one month, and I will continue to do so.

Some people have earned close to 100 or even 1000 dollars when they started, and I would say that is exceptional. Because even Medium says that only 5% of their users earn more than 100 dollars. For me, that is a long way to go.

The above screenshot is from a mail sent by Medium. I have heard before that the number was closer to 7%. This can mean two things. Either the earnings are coming down for all the members of the medium user base is growing and the same people who were earning more than 100$ continue to earn so. This is not so promising, but it’s better, because it is challenging, as only a small section of people get to enjoy this success. This creates a milestone to be achieved, and I am up for it!

But then again, I don’t write only for money. I write to satisfy my quench, to connect, to voice my opinions, to stand in solidarity, and to spread positivity.

I love the Read Ratio because it is the KPI that makes the most sense to me.

An article to reach a lot of people, needs a lot of work. But an article to be read by the people who see it, needs the article to be good, with a catchy title, a descriptive subtitle that manages to capture the soul of the entire article, and an attractive and meaningful image.

I have written 70 articles which spawned close to 3000 views in a month. My read ratio is 67.45%, which means that approximately 2000 people have read my articles. This for me is a great number. I would say anything between 50–70 % is great, and anything above 70% is exceptional.

These are my top three earning posts, and as you can see, the article that earned the most is an article about Medium. For obvious reasons, it did not get curated. The other two articles were curated ones.

Curation does not mean that your article will go viral. Viral is far from that!

All three of my curated posts are published in the largest publication of Medium, and even that did not make much of a difference. Also, I took a little less than 30 minutes to write each of the articles that got curated! There are other articles that took a lot of research and half a day and got lost in the pile.

Curation is not something that you should be giving the top priority. The top priority should always be your Readers.

I found that writing every day has some effect on your earnings and reach.

But most importantly, writing every day improves your writing.

This is the biggest earning that you can ever receive as a writer, that is to become better at writing. Some amazing Medium users give great support and leave constructive criticisms on your posts, which in turn helps you improve your craft.

It is okay to not get curated, it is okay to be rejected by a big publication, it is okay to start slow. Because almost everyone started from there.

Consistency is the key. It is a medicine which shows slow improvements over a longer period, but it is a medicine which works. All you have to do is to believe in medicine.

Believe in Consistency!

Write every day, and write topics that make you happy, read other articles, leave feedback for other writers, research a lot, and most importantly identify your strengths and weaknesses.
